Newbies to the US from Canada: Anyone else having trouble adjusting?

In the US they still use terrible measurements like pounds, feet, miles, fahrenheit, etc.

They also have daylight savings time which is patently useless.

other than that, welcome!

Except for medical things I've noticed they use metric first and then convert it. Also soda is in litres for big bottles which is odd.

We had daylight savings time in Ontario.

I can't get over the lack (non existent) of recycling here

Oh I know - I miss that granola too. Try Udi's brand (gluten free) Wildflower Honey + Oat granola (At Target in VA).........darn close minus the raisins (which frankly were hard as rocks anyway).

It sucks that everything else is either loaded with fat or for some reason has coconut in it.

Thanks! I will stop by Target tomorrow and try some; I just ran out of my granola yesterday. I'm not too far from you :)

Haha, I wasn't going to say anything but three shots in a coffee is a bold move. Think I've only done that once or twice and it resulted in almost instant heart palpitations lol.

I just noticed the lack of recycling. My husband and those on his street seem to be very good about it so I assumed it was just like home but when I visited a friend in Florida, nobody down there looked like they recycled. I was horrified. And composting? Forget it.

K1, EAD/AP + AOS + ROC = 0 RFE's

Recycling is going to depend where you are.

The city here gave us one of those 64 gal bins for recycling. I even had them bring me a second one since we are a family of 8.

Funny, I am also in Florida and find that they recycle things much more here than where I lived in Canada. It's not that surprising though, I come from a small town in the Maritimes and now live in a big city.

K1 Visa timeline: Application sent to Visa in hand: 10 months and 4 days (Texas Service Center)

02/26/2015: I-129F Application mailed to Texas lockbox

03/05/2015: NOA1 email notification

08/27/2015: NOA2! (176 days)

09/02/2015: Sent to NVC

09/14/2015: Called NVC and obtained MTL case number

09/18/2015: In Transit to MTL consulate

09/21/2015: Consulate received our file (24 days post-NOA2)

09/24/2015: Sent Packet 3 (unprompted, but CEAC status had updated a second time)

09/29/2015: Packet 4 received, interview scheduled. Still haven't received Packet 3, I advise not to wait for it!

10/09/2015: Received Packet 3 in the mail!

04/25/2016: Officially outside processing times for EAD/AP. Scheduled Infopass appointment for 05/10.

05/21/2016: Finally received email notice that EAD was approved on 05/19 after numerous service requests, infopass appt and ombudsman inquiry

05/23/2016: Received hard-copy letter notifying me that my AP was approved on the same day as my EAD. No hard-copy for EAD yet.

05/28/2016: Received EAD/AP Combo Card (122 days since filing).

06/21/2016: Received email notification of AOS interview (Appointment scheduled 07/21/2016)

07/21/2016: AOS interview. Approved, but file was missing medical. Local office can't issue GC until they receive medical from DOS.

07/25/2016: USCIS case status changed to New Card Is Being Produced!

08/01/2016: Green card in hand. ROC window opens Apr 29, 2018.

Guys! I also managed to find all dressed chips at my local grocery store (stop&shop)! I was with my SIL and she was so taken aback at my level of excitement haha. You're right, they don't quite have that zing to them but I will most certainly take what I can get!

Guys! I also managed to find all dressed chips at my local grocery store (stop&shop)! I was with my SIL and she was so taken aback at my level of excitement haha. You're right, they don't quite have that zing to them but I will most certainly take what I can get!

My guess is they tamed down the 'zing' for fear of Americans disliking the slight vinegar taste... and I bet that's going to bite them in the end when they're too bland for either nationality to like them. I don't think I'm going to buy them again, to be honest. I want the real deal or I'll go find something else with zing to it.
