I recently found this site/forum and it has been a blessing with all the information in it. It is just awesome. I would like to share a bit of my story and what I am thinking of doing, in hopes to get some feedback and advise from the members.

I am a US Citizen, but I was born in Cuba, leaving for the US when I was 13 yrs. old (1994). After 18 years of not visiting Cuba I went in 2012, where I saw family I had not seen since I was a kid and meet new family that had been born after I had left Cuba or were infants at the time.

It was then that I met a third cousin from my father side, and we totally hit it off and became friends on the spot. We share many of the same interests and passions and likes, and it was as if we had known each other forever. We talked and emailed each other every now and then, and kept up with each other's lives and happenings.

I returned to Cuba three years later (December 2015), and spent 20 days over there. I decided some of my family (definitely not all of it and certainly not my parents) that I was gay. The younger generation that I shared this with was totally ok with it (I figured that only the elderly in my family are homophobic, as my parents would rather see me dead that gay). Long story short, the third cousin in question was more than ok with it; one thing lead to another, we kissed and pretty much fell in love. No need to describe here the rest, but it has been pretty magical (totally sappy I know), and after my return to the US we have kept calling and emailing each other, and chatting in facebook regularly (almost every other day, depending on his ability to find internet connection in Cuba).

You know when they say that when you know you know... well, I think I know... and if everything continues to progress as it is, I would like to go to Cuba in March and ask him to marry me. Still, so far same-sex marriage is not legal in Cuba, so I would have to bring him to the US in order to marry him (now that is legal in the US) and spend the rest of our lives together. I have decided to to tell my parents (my friends and some family knows about it), because I would like to face that storm once I have my cousin next to him, holding hands.

I would like to get some feedback and advise from the members of the forum as far as should I file the K-1 Visa request after I return in March, is three months of relationship too soon, despite being friends and knowing each other since 2012 (note that we did not grow up together; and he is 25 and I am 35), and what steps should I take, evidence that needs to be included so be successful in my petition.

Thanks in advance. Cheers!

Just follow the guides on here regarding gathering all proof/documents needed for the k1 petition. It doesn't matter if you're only in a relationship for 3 months. What matters is how well you know each other because that's what the interview will be about.

Good luck! Keep us updated ok? :)
