hi

congrats!

I don't know about Canada, but you aren't liable to file taxes since you haven't worked here this year and you are arriving on the last day of the year

in 2017 you will have to file taxes unless you make less than the threshold

What's the amount of the threshold?

I am moving this Thursday - yay.

Will I need to file taxes in both US and Canada?

And how about the years to come?

TIA :)

Because you're moving on the very last day of the year, I would personally just file taxes in Canada unless your spouse wants to file MFJ instead of MFS.

Moving forward, if you have property in Canada, or RRSPs, savings accounts earning interest and a variety of other things, you possibly could still be filing Canadian taxes or at the very least declaring those things on your US taxes. I don't have any of that so I'm not sure exactly how it works. However, there are always a few (like 5-10) threads in the Canada forum during tax season to help you out along with links to a really good tax website.
