After submitting petition to USCIS how long does everything take to get approval? I'm in Texas, us citizen husband and I got married last month in Nigeria in his country.

And wants to know what documents should we gather before the interview.... we have wedding certificate, affidavit, wedding photos (100).

We are starting a string of emails from each other and sending postcards too....

Any advice is appreciated.

Average time at USCIS is 5 to 6 months.

K-3 is pretty much obsolete so you'll probably go for the CR-1 visa. Once you hit NVC, you'll have to submit affidavit of support, IRS transcript, the foreign spouse submits police certs, birth cert etc. You can read more about it in the guides, link to CR-1 and K-3 below:

Since the interview is in Nigeria, I hope you front loaded your petition with lots of bona fida proof?! Since Nigeria's considered high fraud, VJ advices that you put lots and lots of bona fida proof with your I-130 petition and then refill again at NVC (side load). You need to show photos, passport stamps of visits to each other, mail/chat logs, phone records etc etc.

Good luck on your visa journey

Thanks for the advice.

I am in the process of filling out form I-130. It ask the question What if your name has changed?

If either you or the person to are filing for is using a name other than that shown on the relevant documents, you must file your petition with copies of the legal documents that effected the change, such as a marriage certificate, adoption decree or court order.

However, husband and I married in Nigeria. My maiden name is showing on the marriage certificate. I am not sure if I should include my married name or the name on the certificate.

Please help!
