I had found a thread earlier today that had some info that I am now trying to find again but can't find it for the life of me! If anyone is able to give me some info or point me in the direction of an existing thread I'd appreciate it.

Anyways, I only just found this website after submitting packet 3 today (Woo!!) and thanks to another member discovered that my I-129f has an expiry date! Just a minor detail I had overlooked ;) Anyways it expires on January 10th, and even though that likely is enough time to schedule a medical & interview, I was planning on heading down to Colorado next week for a month (or two) then returning back to Canada to do my interview.

I figure it's worth a shot sending an email to request an extension- does anyone have any advice for me? Am I sending it to the US Consulate in Vancouver that I'm currently dealing with? Any way in particular I should format this letter? Thanks!

Your I-129 expires in January? How did you figure that out?

And I wouldn't be too sure that you would have enough time to squeeze in a medical and interview before then even if you wanted to. The holidays will slow all this down enormously

A lot of consulates will automatically extend the expiration of the I-129F petition, but you can contact your consulate to ask about an extension and see if they will want anything else from you in order to extend.

As to how the OP knows the expiration date of the I-129F> The approved petitions are valid for 4 months, and the expiration date can be found on the NOA2 approval notice. However, the expiration date is never an actual problem because the consulates extend the validity of approved petitions.

9 FAM 41.81 N6.2 Validity of a K-1 Petition
(CT:VISA-2165; 08-21-2014)
An approved K-1 visa petition is valid for a period of four months from the date of USCIS action and may be revalidated by the consular officer any number of times for additional periods of four months from the date of revalidation, provided the officer concludes that the petitioner and the beneficiary remain legally free to marry and continue to intend to marry each other within 90 days after the beneficiary's admission into the United States. However, the longer the period of time since the filing of the petition, the more the consular officer must be concerned about the intentions of the couple, particularly the intentions of the petitioner in the United States. If the officer is not convinced that the U.S. citizen petitioner continues to intend to marry the beneficiary, including instances where no action has been taken on the application for a year (while refused under INA 221(g)), the petition should be returned to the approving office of USCIS with an explanatory memorandum. (See 9 FAM 41.81 PN5 for revalidation procedure.)
