Hey everyone!

To start off, I am an American male, engaged to a Brazilian female. We are starting our K-1 process. I filled out the paper form, by hand, in black legible ink, and I have a few questions.

Here are my specific questions.

A. I've read what forms of payment are acceptable. I am going to go with a money order from the bank payable to "U.S. Department of Homeland Security" with the date in the U.S. style "month/day/year".

So when I send in my I-129, do I just insert the money in the envelope?

B. Also, I'll be filing from Washington state, so that means I send it to the California office correct?

C. Concerning addresses; are postal codes the same as zip codes?

D. I'm an American citizen, BUT I was born in Germany on an American military base to American citizens, my father was in the military. Does this mean on page 2, section 13 I choose option "c parents?" I have a document called 'REPORT OF BIRTH ABROAD OF A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.' It is form 3-80. How would I accurately fill out section 13?

E. My fiance's address is too long for the street number and name. I read on the USCIS site, that I could add an extension page with the section and subject concerning the extesion. When I add the extenstion, should I just add the information that will not fit in the box on the sheet? Or should I just leave the box blank and put the entire street name and number on the extension sheet? (I really want to be accurate and thorough)

F. Lastly, how are the current processing times? I think our application will have little issues. I will be able to pass the part where I prove my financial capability, neither her nor I have criminal backgrounds, she HAS been here before legally on a student visa.

Thanks for the help!

Sincerely,

Nick

Black is acceptable but some suggest blue link is better for signatures as for scans such it looks better and more authentic.

Here are my specific questions.

A. I've read what forms of payment are acceptable. I am going to go with a money order from the bank payable to "U.S. Department of Homeland Security" with the date in the U.S. style "month/day/year". Yes, drawn on a US financial institution. Review: http://general tips on assembling uscis immigration applications for mailing

B. Also, I'll be filing from Washington state, so that means I send it to the California office correct? No, follow the form instructions, http://www.uscis.gov/i-129f

C. Concerning addresses; are postal codes the same as zip codes? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZIP_code, do a google search. Google can also be your friend.

D. I'm an American citizen, BUT I was born in Germany on an American military base to American citizens, my father was in the military. Does this mean on page 2, section 13 I choose option "c parents?" Yes I have a document called 'REPORT OF BIRTH ABROAD OF A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.' It is form 3-80. How would I accurately fill out section 13? Completely fill out question 13.d. through 13.d.3., as indicated. Review: http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/abroad/events-and-records/birth.html

(I really want to be accurate and thorough) Review the Form I-129F instructions, page 2: http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-129finstr.pdf

F. Lastly, how are the current processing times? I think our application will have little issues. I will be able to pass the part where I prove my financial capability, neither her nor I have criminal backgrounds, she HAS been here before legally on a student visa. Also, in the letter of intent to marry, it says

"United States Department of Homeland Security

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

[ADDRESS OF FILING LOCATION]"

Do I put the Texas address?

And this...

or when submitting for interview

United States Department of State
United States Consulate,
[name of country where Embassy is located]
[Embassy Address]

I can just delete that correct? Because that is where my fiance put the consulate she will be dealing with?

Hey thanks Pitaya. My problem isn't my ability to read. My problem is the sometimes overly simplistic explanation of the instructions. I will look into the links.

You are welcome.

You would do well to take the various form instructions in your immigration journey quite literally, and don't read too much into it. Yes, read the links.

I'm still confused about the FS-240, REPORT OF BIRTH ABROAD OF A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Is that a certificate of naturalization or certificate of citizenship? Because if it is not, I will leave 13.d.1-13.d.3 empty.

It sounds like your parents did a CRBA, as described by the respective link previously provided to you. From that link (emphasis added):

The child’s parents should contact the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate to apply for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America (CRBA) to document that the child is a U.S. citizen. If the U.S. embassy or consulate determines that the child acquired U.S. citizenship at birth, a consular officer will approve the CRBA application and the Department of State will issue a CRBA, also called a Form FS-240, in the child’s name.

According to U.S. law, a CRBA is proof of U.S. citizenship and may be used to obtain a U.S. passport and register for school, among other purposes.

If that is not the form as you described, then you will have to seek another document.

Do I put the Texas address? That will suffice.

[Embassy Address]

I can just delete that correct? Because that is where my fiance put the consulate she will be dealing with? You will need to do that later on in the process, at the embassy/consulate interview phase of the process. Basically you will use the same form twice. Suggest that on the second one you use terms such as, reiterate, continue to have intentions of marriage, etc.

:guides:, especially the K1 visa guide.

You can check the box stating citizenship through parents, then mark 'No' for getting a Naturalization certificate. You most likely went from the CRBA to obtaining a US passport. Use a copy of all pages of your US passport to prove your US citizenship.

Also, in the letter of intent to marry, it says

Put the address you send the I-129F petition to, OR put no addresses at all. They are not a requirement.

These samples work perfectly >

Ok everyone, everything has been coming along fine. It has become a lot of paperwork! It has mostly been a lot of printing PDF copies of documents and pictures. I went to the post office and got a $340 money order. However, I was reading that it "must be drawn on a US financial Institution." Does that mean I have to get the money order or check from my bank, with the bank's logo on it? The statndard USPS money order will not suffice?

Welcome to the forum.

A United States Postal Service money order will be accepted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for the payment of fees.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Ok everyone, I have another question. At the bottom of this http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide#proofit says "all forms that you submit must be originals with original signatures. Supporting evidence may be photocopies." Here's the problem, the letter of intent, and the G-325A that I have, are scanned copies that she sent to me from Brasil. She has the originals. We scanned them for speek sake. Should I have her snail mail send me the actual documents she wrote on?
