My fiance just finished the interview for k-1 visa in london and since then I have lost my job. She hasn't even received the package in the mail yet. I'm really concerned because the affidavit of support in the packet no longer reflects my employment status. Also I was planning on moving to another state because after this job there is nothing for us here. I want to move back home where we will be closer to my family and where i can work with my brother. Will these changes reflect instability on my part? do I need to stay where I am until she gets here? We weren't planning on having her come until january. What does the DHS officer look at when interviewing my fiance when she arrives in the US? How will this affect our adjustment of status process after we are married? I am totally freaking out right now, Please help!!

When your fiance comes to the states all the DHS officer looks at is the sealed packet she will bring with her they will not ask much else other than when do you plan to get married or something along those lines. When your fiance applies for adjustment of status you will need to fill out a I-864 Affidavit of financial support proving you make enough to sponsor. You have 90 days to marry your fiance from when she arrives on US soil. As to not sabotage your plans, I'd advise moving the marriage as late as possible but of course not exceeding the 90 day rule. That way itll give you some time to get a new job to meet the requirements. If you cannot find something by then, you always have the option of getting a co-sponsor to sponsor your fiance for you.

Hi! Sorry you lost your job. However, relax! It sounds like your fiances visa was approved? Then you're fine. There is no "interview" at the POE. The officer might ask her a few questions while following procedure, but more to make conversation than anything else. There should be no problem for her to enter the country, regardless of your current job or living arrangements.

What you should focus on right now is finding a new job to support yourself and your fiance when she arrives. If that means relocating, that's perfectly fine. For AOS, you will either need to be re-established with a good job to prove you can support her, or you will have to find a co-sponsor to help out.

Other people can probably elaborate and be more helpful about details, I just wanted to tell you it's gonna be ok :-)

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

. Will these changes reflect instability on my part?

No, you just need adequate income at the time of AOS filing or get a cosponsor.

do I need to stay where I am until she gets here?

No

We weren't planning on having her come until january. What does the DHS officer look at when interviewing my fiance when she arrives in the US?

They take her sealed envelope and stamp her passport with the K-1 visa in it. Maybe she will get fingerprinted and maybe not.

How will this affect our adjustment of status process after we are married?

Might need a cosponsor, that's all.

I am totally freaking out right now, Please help!!

Don't be.
