We got our NOA2 about 1 month ago telling us to pick an agent, pay fees, get financial documents in order.

There is a good chance my contract will be renewed for one more year starting NEXT April 1st. This is good, we didn't it would happen The job pays well and I like it. If this happens my wife will also go to grad school, which takes TWO years from next April. An opportunity we don't want to pass up.

What in the world should we do?! Will we have to start all the way over? Can we possibly drag out the process for THAT long.

At the bottom of the NOA2 it says we have one year to apply for the visa now that our petition has been accepted. So one year from our priority date?

When everything is okay (documents and fees paid) Can we schedule an interview for say 6 months done the line? (The time line says most people it do it one month after they are OKed)

If the interview is successful, my wife will get CR-1 on that day, right? or very soon after and then we only have 6 months to get to the USA.

Is that correct?

So how can we stretch this to 2 1/2 years?

Thanks. You all have been super helpfull through this. (My parents honestly can not believe how hard it is for an American citizen to bring in his educated money earning WIFE back to the USA)

Delay with NVC BUT keep in touch with them at least once a year. If you are not in touch they close your case and ship it to storage. You can take up to a year to send in the agent info, then wait another 6 months to send in some of the paperwork they require - and do the I-864 in the last tranche.

You can stay at NVC for many many years, just as long as you stay in contact with NVC once a year from your last contact.

You can re-schedule your interview, you don't have to chose the one time they give you. Not sure how long you can keep doing it though.

Once the visa is approved, you have six months from the date of the medical exam to enter the US.

Yep, you should be able to stretch it to 2 1/2 years.

Tell me about it. Everyone I speak to can't believe how hard it is for a USC to bring a foreign spouse to the US. When my husband and I got married, his family and friends all thought I could just move over... I always find it interesting that I can get an immigration visa to Canada or Australia in less than six months, having no ties to Canada or Australia, but so far, it's taken 13 months and counting for me to immigrate to my USC husband.... It's an f***ed up immigration system in the US. <_<

Congratulations on getting that great job opportunity.
