Hi everybody,

My online status check is "Card Mailed to Me",

My questions are:

1- Can I embrace work just after receiving my card Or do I have to have SSN at first ? And from where can I have SSN ? And how long does SSN take to be issued ?

2- When applying for jobs, they require background check, how and where can I have one ?

Anything else ( paperwork ) required to start working legally and directly, please let me know.

Thanks

Yes you will need an SSN. You need to go to the SSA office (https://www.ssa.gov/). It takes about 14 days to get one sometimes faster.

Hey there,

Did you adjust from a K-1? If so did you apply for a AP (Advance Parole) and EAD (Employment Authorization Document)? If so you should already be able to work. All you had to do was go to an SSN office with your passport, show them your visa and your departure record and that would have gotten you an SSN so that you could work when you got your EAD? If you did not do that you now have to wait till your green card is received due to the fact that your I-94 is expired and then go into the SSA office and get your SSN card. Again it will take 2 weeks to get.

I interpreted it as him being about to receive his EAD.

Sorry my bad. If they get the EAD they can go in and get the SSN and show the EAD, but again it will take two weeks from when they apply.
