Sorry, Guy, but I had a hard time understanding what you wrote. Here's what I understood, hopefully I got your story straight:

  • You filed an I-130 in April 2014 and it was recently approved and sent to NVC.
  • I assume that the NVC received the I-130 shortly after and that you began to gather required paperwork for the NVC process
  • You had two outdated Canadian police reports, one from 2011 and one from 2013, and you weren't sure if you could use them so you called the NVC.
  • The NVC operator told you to send your police reports regardless of the date.
  • The very next day after sending in the outdated police reports your new, and updated, report came in the mail.
  • The documents that you sent were received by the NVC on Sept 1, 2015.
  • The NVC contacted you via phone on October 8, 2015, asking for a birth certificate and police report.
  • You told the NVC agent that your birth certificate is on Page# 18 of the packet that you sent.
  • (I assume) You were then transferred to another NVC agent who told you that they received a package from you on September 1, and another letter on September 3, 2015 (your current police report) and that your case was set for Supervisor Review.
  • During your phone call you requested that the NVC call you with updates because you can't get through during day-time hours and sometimes have to wait up until 11pm to call.
  • You called again on Oct 9, 2015 and the NVC agent told you again that your case was still being reviewed and thats it.
  • You called again on Oct 14, 2015 to inquire why a supervisor hasn't called you yet and what the issue was with with your case.
  • The agent says that he has told you all he can. (not good enough for you)
  • After your exchange the NVC operator hung up on you.
  • You are now super frustrated because you don't know what is wrong.

If what I typed above is the correct story here are my answers to your questions:

  1. "Is there an alternate number to call?" - No there is not.
  2. "The agent hung up on us? Really?" - You need to understand that the NVC call center is absolutely inundated with calls day-in and day-out. The operator told you that he gave you all of the info that he could give you. He probably had 100 other people on hold behind you. He didn't have time to explain himself further so he hung up. Yeah, its bad customer service but what more could he tell you? He didn't have any other information at his disposal to give.

Other Helpful Tips/Advice

  1. The NVC supervisor most likely will not call you. Its probably best that you keep trying to call them, despite the long hold times. I find it best to call at 6:58am EST. I have never waited more than 10 minutes on hold when calling at that time.
  2. Sometimes it takes more than one call to get through to a supervisor. Don't give up! Keep asking for that supervisor but be courteous and kind. If at all, try to put the agent at ease. If you are in any way confrontational with the NVC agent they have probably been trained to just hang up and move on. They don't have time to deal with people's frustrations.
  3. If the NVC needs anything from you they will most likely contact you via mail or email.

Hope this helps. This process is super arduous and slow but you'll make it! I'm sure some other, more experienced, VJ'ers will chime in with their ideas.

383 words, not a single coma or fullstop. When you ask for help, please at least show the effort to explain your case in a way that people who might be able to help you, can understand you. You're Canadian, so I understand your first language is probably English. Come on, you can do better than that...

Hello Guy junior

I totally understand your frustration. You are not alone in this boat. I have had the same experience with NVC. If you call 100 times in a day you will hear 100 different replies from them. Most of the reps acts like a auto bot who will only answer what has been feeded into them. They dont know any thing. I agree with RJHENSEN142 when ever you call first be polite and always request to talk to supervisor if you want to get any updates regarding your case because they are the real deals no one else can guide you straight except them though due to my experience I didnt find them so useful as well but its better to have some thing than nothing. But dont loose hope brother keep hanging there you will get through this. Peace
