I need some help with the I864. Basically I am the US citizen and my husband the foreigner. I also live outside of the US with my husband and have zero income. For this reason my parents will be the joint sponsors. My father will complete the I864 and my mother the I864a as a household member to combine their income. I am filling out the I864 and its smooth sailing until I get to Part 5 of the form. Clearly I will count myself and my husband and our child but will I also count my parents in item number 7? Or do I leave it as 0 and my father will count 1 for my mother when he fills put his I864?

Also in Part 7 item numbers 5a and 5b will I put my father or not? It is asking for the assets from the I864A. I am guessing on my form I leave it blank and my father will include my mother in this same section when he fills out his form.

Finally when my father fills out his I864 in part1 which box will he check? I am unsure if he is the only joint sponsor or if he is the first of 2 because he will be including my mothers income in the I864a?

Thank you ahead of time. If you prefer to send a pm thats fine. I am just so scared of making a mistake.

Ok I think I have it figured out. One last thing to clarify. If my father is filing the I864 and my mother the I864a as his household member will he check the box for I am the only joint sponsor?

Yes. Also, don't separate the couple's income in the section asking about information from a tax return. It will be the same on both their forms. You only separate their income in the sections asking about personal income. If Mom has no income, she's only providing the I-864a because they file a joint tax return.
