I need some guidance on what to do here. My wife received her medical in September 2006 at St. Luke's in the Philippines before receiving her visa. It was a K-1 visa. We married in December and had the supplement form I693A completed by an approved surgeon. We filed the I-485. Today, we get an RFE in the mail stating that we need to file the I-693 medical examination form. The medical exam was done in the Philippines in September. I called USCIS and spoke with a really nice person. He agreed with me that another med exam was not needed, but he was not the person working the case. He said he would try to track down the person working the case and would get back to me with an answer in a few days. I just have a feeling that I'm not going to receive an answer though. Should I take my wife to a physician and just get the exam done (she already has the vaccination supplement)? I hate this. Everything was going so smooth up until now.

No... the medical is going to cost you $200+. I would wait and see what they can come up with in your case. Did you submit your I-693a?

Were the same though. The USCIS was ask about my medical examination form. So I did I submit my VACCINATION DOCUMENTATION WORKSHEET from the St. Lukes in Philippines. If she bring that vaccination worksheet the USCIS will accept that . And finally I have my interview this coming March 08, 2007 .

Yes, we did submit the supplment sheet. USCIS is asking for the actual medical examination sheet, not the supplement.

U can submit in replying to RFE your copy of I-693 Vaccination Supplement form from the Civil Surgeon and the DS-3025 Form (Vaccination form from Saint Lukes).

btw, did u include the I-693 (Vaccination Supplement Form in sealed envelope) when u filed the I-485?

We didn't get an RFE, but when we got to our AOS interview, the officer did not have the medical examination form from the UK, so we left the interview with an RFE. We had to get another exam, mail the sealed envelope to the officer, and were approved in no time.

I agree with the poster who said to wait and see what they have to say, as the exam is expensive. I think it cost us over $250. :(

This is easily fixable, so don't get panicked.

When I started fixing my AOS requirements. I took a Td shot in our community clinic that is free & which is not given to me at St. Lukes hospital. So after getting the Td shot, I asked a proof that I took the shot on that date and that hospital name signed by the nurse who gave the vaccination to me.

So I went to the registered civil surgeon prior for Adjustment of Status, I gave him my DS-3025 vaccination record that St. Lukes gave to me, the Td shot proof I got from our community clinic here in US, my xray film to proved that my medical exams is still valid for 1 yr. from the time I got the medical result in the Phils. And I requested to UPDATE my vaccine unto I-693A Supplement form and only cost me $25 for transfer to update my vaccine. And he gave it back to me in a "sealed envelope" BUT before he do sealed it, I nicely asked the receptionist if I could have another copy of everything they will put on that SEALED I-693A Supplement form.

So she did gave me another copy bcos I insist and told her that incase, Immigration misplaced it and asked for another copy I could comply with it and even offer to pay for the xerox service she will do but instead she gave it to me free.

I haven't got RFE in my I-693A form for AOS, but If I am ... I could reply it with my copies with me and just attached that it's already my 2nd copy.

Advice: You could visit again your registered surgeon if they could provide you another copy of sealed I-693A ... if they have files in your name it will be easy for them. If not they will be asking again an updated vaccine from you and the vaccine record copy you have from your former country and show your xray film so they won't keep pushing thru for another medical exams, bcos our 1st medical exams in Visa Application is valid for 1 yr. so it's still usable for AOS Application. Don't be fooled for civil surgeon pushing that you need full medical exmas eventhough you have vaccination record and xray from your visa application... although be sure your vaccination is updated before AOS is done. Because not all vaccines are being given in visa application sometimes, its a case to case basis.

God bless!

Thanks, I appreciate everyone's input so far. But I think the point that most of the people replying are missing is that it is USCIS that is requesting a copy of the medical exam form. They are not asking for the supplement, they are asking for the actual medical exam forms. They want the I-693, not the I-693A. And that really bothers me, because as a K-1 who had her exam in September, my wife only needs to provide the supplement. Now I'm probably going to have to pay hundreds of dollars for an exam that is not necessary because someone at USCIS doesn't know their job. And this whole mistake is holding up her work authorization also. I know we're far from the first couple to have problems with this process, but it just really makes me feel...victimized. I mean, we do everything right and legal, and we reach barriers. Well, I guess that's the system for you.

Other people in the past on this forum were asked to submit the medical and eventually ended up getting denied for not doing it, even though they didn't have to re-submit since they were in the one year window. It might be worth it to just bite the bullet and redo the medical, because trying to resolve this is going to be really difficult. There is no way as far as I can tell to have any direct communication with the person adjudicating your case other than by mail. Even then I'm not convinced they get it. Maybe someone else will remember the details, but I believe someone in the past sent a letter saying they didn't have to do the medical based on USCIS rules, and ended up getting denied.

If you're going to try to fight it, keep a log of everyone's name that you talk to and get everything in writing!

Any chance you can get the clinic at St. Luke's to fax or mail you a copy of the results of the exam they did?

If she had the exam done not so long ago they may still have the results on file and you can send USCIS a copy of them.

I read about this kind of RFE before I got here to the US, so I asked and was lucky enough to have the PEO officer make a copy of my exam results for me, so I could have them in case I do get an RFE asking for them.

Good luck!

Sorry to bump up an old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one since this is really a follow up to the same topic. As expected, we never heard back from the guy from USCIS that we talked to on the phone. So I scheduled a medical exam at a civil surgeon for my wife. She took the exam last week and now has the results. We'll be sending the information back to USCIS tomorrow. The exam cost $160. From what I've read that seems to be pretty cheap, as most people report $200+. Well, now hopefully USCIS will receive this with no problems and there will be no further problems in the AOS process. Arghhh! The stress! lol
