Im just getting everything ready for NVC to avoid delays, but I'm not at that stage yet. I'm filling in I-864 for myself. A relative living in my home is filling in I-864a. We are combining incomes because I missed a lot of work this year and and afraid I'll barely scrape by the income requirements. And now with my relative I have to meet the requirements for a household of 3 instead of 2. Anyway, My questions...

1. On I-864a, page 3, part 5 it says "I the sponsor..." and there's a box I print my name in and underneath that is a box where I print my husbands name (beneficiary). But under that box it says "indicate number". What does that mean????? Am I suppose to put his name in 1a as intending immigrant number 1 ? Because I thought that was for people immigrating with him and there is no one else.

2. I-864a page 4 part 6. It says " I, household member, (that would be relative) in consideration..." There's another box that says print number intending immigrant. What does that mean??? Do I write the word "one" because there's just one immigrant?

3. I-864 I can't find anywhere where it asks me the relationship I have with the immigrant (my husband) and that's odd so I think it's there but I'm not seeing it???

4. My husband's address is long and it even includes "at the (a name) bus stop". It won't fit well in the provided space so what do I do?

Thanks everyone!

Just because the relative lives with you doesn't make them counted in the household size in your count. Your household size # is those your are financially responsible for and claim on your taxes.

  1. Children who don't live with you (whether you pay child support or not or regardless if they live with you count). Including children away at college you claimed on taxes

A person you live with is a household member but doesn't count in size unless you support them. Your household size is you and who you claimed on 2014 taxes and you support plus your husband. Same for your Joint Sponsor their household size plus your spouse..

As for the address, I filled in the full address in order using all the boxes available excluding postal code of course. I think it's important to just list the address as best as possible but im sure they understand this issue to be a common problem. I did the same on my petition and it was approved with no request to clarify my husband's address.

I have contradicting information. In the instructions for the I-864 it says..

Item Number 7. This question gives you the option of including certain other non-dependent relatives who are living in your residence as part of your household size. Such relatives may include your mother, father, sister, brother or adult children, if they are living in your residence. However, the only reason to include these relatives in your household size is if you need to include their income when you calculate your household income for purposes of meeting the income requirement for this affidavit. To be considered, any relative included in this category must sign and submit Form I-864A, Contract Between Sponsor and Household Member.

So yes I have to include my relative in my household size even though I don't financially support him because we are combining incomes. Am I reading it wrong?

I'm curious as to the household size question too, as I'm living with a nondependent relative and may be using them as an additional sponsor.

Yes, getting the household size correct is important but that wasn't my original question. I still need to find the answer to the questions I posted. I did get an answer about the address though.

Answers:

  • I don't know.
  • I don't know.
  • Box 1a in part one addresses this.
  • Write "see attached" on the form itself and then write the complete address on a supplemental sheet. Be sure to reference the corresponding section on the form itself on the supplemental sheet.
