It depends on what do you need the SSN for... because if you have the work permit, the SSN card you will get will still have the "Valid for work only with authorization DS" so whenever you get the green card you will have to go back to get the regular card.

Do you have an SSN yet? I'm asking because I did not get mine when I had the f1 visa, I already had from my previous j1-visa.

You can use your Social Security Card with that mention as long as your status has been updated in the administration system which will be done automatically when you get a green card.

I will ask for a new SSN card once I get my GC because I want to take my husband's last name but if I wanted to keep my maiden name I would not need another card.

A friend of mine kept her maiden name (she adjusted from a F1) didn't get a new SSC and still got a job without a problem.

Yayyy! Happy for you!

I originally thought my lawyer was mailing my package on Saturday the 3rd, but turns out he did Monday morning so mine just delivered to the Chicago Lockbox today.

Did you receive those NOAs via e-mail/text?

Oh yeah, I meant 1 month from when we filed, but less than 2 weeks from now :)

We are not going to try an early walk in cause my wife does not have a drivers license and the office is abut 2 hours away from us, and I can't afford missing a day at work if I don't know for sure! Also, our state has been affected with floods and it might take a while for the USCIS office to re-open, so we will just wait!
