B2 Visa for family

Hello,

Is there anything special that needs to be considered for my wife's cousin to apply for a B2 visa? She is young, single, no kids or house, so we think it won't be easy, but is it really as simple as filling out the DS-160 and making an appointment? For evidence she has the hukou book showing she is related. Reading here I don't see much else she can do to prepare http://beijing.usembassy-china.org.cn/niv_business.html

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

From what you wrote, this is a likely denial...she would have to have extremely strong reasons to return, whereas visiting a cousin isn't even considered a good reason to go to the US..remember, everyone seeking a B2 visa is presumed to be going to the US to stay, so the conversation does not start in a neutral mode, but rather the applicant is automatically ineligible for a B2 until they convince the CO otherwise. In the case of a young, single woman from a country in which strong connections bring about good jobs, etc, a person not having those will find it more than challenging to convince a CO that her reasons for returning are overwhelming enough to be granted a B2 visa.

B2 application is very straightforward, often needlessly complicated on this forum.

It's likely she won't be approved. My inlaws have gotten B2's in the past by being required to put a freeze on a good chunk of money in their bank accounts. Something like 50000 RMB+ to be unfrozen only upon their return to China.
