Can you keep your documents after the interview?

After going to the embassy for the K1 visa interview, does the fiance get to keep all of the documents, or does the embassy keep them?

I was wondering because I just started looking over the various things that we will have to do once my fiance arrices in the US, and it looks like we will need to have a lot of the same documents that we need at the visa interview. Some of these documents might only be obtainable in my fiance's country, so I am really glad that I checked a little bit ahead.

Those documents will be forwarded to uscis after entry to the US but as this is a government agency you will have to resubmit the signature on most of them are valid for 1 year. The answer is make plenty of copies. The embassy will keep everything that is required.

According to scattered anecdotal reports, some VJ members have had items such as photos handed back to them at the consular interview, but don't count on it.

Before leaving their countries, beneficiaries should obtain multiple copies of important personal documents (birth certificates, death/divorce certificates of spouses if applicable, immunization records, school records, et al.). Procuring copies after the fact might be expensive, difficult, or impossible.
