Does a tourist visa require a round trip ticket ?

Hello

My grandmother has received her travel visa and we are ready to purchase the flight. We have heard that we MUST purchase a a round trip ticket otherwise she will be stopped when entering the states and not allowed in. I want to know if this is true as she already has passed the interview and received her visa. We do not want to purchase the return ticket as we do not know if we want her to stay until spring or just through the holidays depending on whether she can handle the cold here. Please help and let me know if we are ok to book a one way ticket ?

A B-2 visa does not require you to have a return ticket, but trying to enter without one is probably going to make them question your intent and make CBP take a closer look at you.

Buy a return ticket than can easily be re booked.

You can purchase a one-way ticket; however grandma's intent could be questioned by CBP.

A flexible return ticket is probably cheaper than 2 one-way tickets anyways.

Folks coming from DR basically NEED the roundtrip ticket. Especially to NY. I'm not sure if they don't let them leave DR without it or if it's once they get to customs in US that they are questioned. But I do know most people buy the round trip ticket to avoid the headache. Book the return ticket with whatever airline has the lowest change fee, or a refundable fare. $150 or $200 is well worth avoiding the headache when she's coming here for the first time, by herself.
