Hello,

I hope someone could give me some advice.

My fiance and I haven't started the process yet because we are not sure when would be the best time to start (and I am waiting for my Police Background check to be issued).

I am South African (citizenship) but I currently live in South Korea (residency). My fiance and I met 15 months ago in Korea while he was stationed here with the military. He returned to the States a few weeks ago. I have visited the States with him and he has visited South Africa with me.

I only have 5 months left on my contract in Korea and do not wish to stay. So we are wondering if we should wait until I get back to South Africa before we start the process. We are concerned that if we start the process now and I put down my address in Korea, then if the process takes longer I'll be moving to South Africa before it has been approved but then the address will be wrong. (I hope I make sense).

The other thing that we are concerned about - if we put down only my address in South Africa, then if the process gets approved before I get back to South Africa then there might also be a problem as to which embassy do I go to for an interview (South Africa or South Korea)

My last day in Korea will be February 28th 2016. (Today is September 3rd 2015)

Currently I am waiting for my Police Clearance from South Africa to be issued (may take 2 more months)

Currently also waiting for my Letter of No Impediment (may take 3-4 months)

I hope my situation makes sense and I hope I can get some advice on what would be best to do.

Thanks!

I would begin now. If your address changes, you can notify the USCIS, there is a link right on the NOA1.

My processing time at the CSC was only 12 days, I attribute that primarily to a very effective I-129 package, thanks to the VJ forums and guides.

Are you planning on getting married in South Africa? Curious why you are getting your Letter of No Impediment.

No, but by the time I get the letter the process for the fiance visa might already be approved (hopefully). So we will get married as soon as I can get there. To change your status to married you need the letter of no impediment to prove that you are not currently married and haven't been married before.

Or am I wrong?

Seems like there is just soooo much information all over the web and I'm not sure what is correct and what isn't.

We got married in the USA and we didn't need the letter. I think the letter is only for if you are getting married in South Africa. It was very easy to change from single to married. And we are now listed as married under everything.

It is very easy to get married in the USA. Call up where you want to get married and ask what you will need to bring.

Aaah okay! So much conflicting information everywhere!

Soo... I want to ask another question. The police background check. At what point in the process do I need it? Do I need to hand it in with the
I-129F ? I'm still waiting to get mine from SA and probably will take another 2 months since I'm applying from outside of SA. When do I need it?

Also - another address question: My fiance is an officer in the military and in between assignments right now. He is receiving additional training at a temporary base in Alabama. Right now he is living in a hotel on post before he will be stationed in Georgia from January. He plans on buying a house in Georgia within the next 2 - 3 months. So... what address do I put for "address beneficiary intends to live at in the U.S" ?? We don't have the house yet, so don't know the address and his current address is a hotel. Should we wait until the sale went through before starting?

This is all so confusing!

I filed my I-129f, knowing I would be moving. The NOA1 document gives a link to go to, to change your address if you have moved. In the meantime, I used my work address, and put "jam###, c/o OUR BUSINESS" etc. has worked fine so far...

You don't need a police clearance for the I-129F petition. Those are needed later for the actual K-1 visa interview. You can go ahead and file the petition and use your address in South Africa and state the consulate there as the one you will go through.

What address is the USC petitioner going to use on the I-129F? They need a trusted address that they can use to receive mail once they file. The receipt notice, approval notice and any requests for evidence will be sent there. Use that address for where you intend to live. It is ok if it changes before you arrive.

I have more questions:

As mentioned earlier, I am currently in South Korea until end of February 2016 (5 months from now)

I am unsure which embassy from which country I should list as the one I will go to for my interview. According to the flow chart listed on this website, if all oir things go accordimg to plan and we get no RFE, then it might be possible to have an interview scheduled before I leave Korea (and therefore go for the interview here in Korea.)

But it might also take longer and only get approved for an interview after I leave Korea and after I get back to SA...

So, people already said it is possible to change my address... but is it possible to change the embassy I will go to for an interview.

This is all just sooo confusing.
