K1 fiance visa was approved now looking forward to entering usa and starting my life with my fiance. After we marry within the 90 day allocated period. How does the AOS work.

How long does it take? (APPROX of course!)

When will i be able to travel back to the UK or Honeymoon? (worried i will miss my family and England so may want to visit a couple of times)

Traveling out of the U.S. requires a greencard or Advance Parole (AP) which comes on a combo card with the Employment Authorization (EAD).

EAD/AP are free applications if you mail them with your AOS and are approved quicker than the greencard. So consider this timeline to figure how long it will take to accomplish each step--

Marry

Wait for marriage certificate to get processed by county.

See a civil surgeon if you didn't complete your shots at Knightsbridge

Prepare three applications with documentation ($1070) - AOS/EAD/AP

Get a NOA1

Start the timer for Advance parole card. Supposed to be approved by 90 days.

Obviously the sooner you start, the sooner you work or travel internationally.

Congratulations!

AOS really depends on your local office, and if you get any RFE's. For a good estimate go here https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDisplayInit.doand put in your local field office in the US where you would have an interview. For instance, my local office is in MN, and they're 11 months behind right now...so we aren't holding our breath.

You can't travel outside the US(you can, but won't be allowed back in...) until you have your AP papers. Apply for them and your EAD whether you'll be working or not, they're free if you apply at the same time as your AOS. I got my AP/EAD approved today, 71 days after applying(which is pretty quick, it can take 90)

If you want to honeymoon, wait till after you get AP, or do it in the USA. You can visit family after AP...it should only take 90ish days.

Met 2008. Moved in together 2010. Married 2015. Baby Z joined us 2017 .
