Gee, silly me thought that this forum existed because people FELL IN LOVE with Americans and wanted to live together with their significant others. I will be sure to tell my Canadian husband that the reason he is here in the U.S. is because he wanted to emigrate to the land of "freedom for the 'commoner'", NOT because he fell in love with me and chose to leave a country that he loves and move to a country that he never had a desire to move to. Thanks for setting me straight.

You're welcome.

Why did he move here if he never wanted to? Why didn't you move to Canada?

I guess his desire to move to America was stronger than your desire to move to Canada, eh?

Our desire was to BE TOGETHER. I have a job contract and cannot move to another country for 2 years, he had more flexibility with employment. That is why we are here in America. I am not saying that he hates it here, just that he loves Canada and did not ever plan on moving to America UNTIL he met me. Just as I did not have a desire to move to Canada until I met him. It is not about the country at all; it is about spending our lives with the person we love.

It always makes me laugh when I see Americans all up in arms because we might be subjected to the same rules that we subject foreign visitors to when they're visiting the US.

Why does it make you laugh? America is not like other countries.

All countries are not equal. What's ok for one country is not ok for another.

If America has nuclear weapons, does it mean that everyone else should be allowed to have them as well?

No.

You're right.

It's in a much worse state than many other countries.

No.

Maybe America should not have nuclear weapons, seeing as they are the only country who ever used them and their target was innocent civilians.

I disagree. The country is everything. Love doesn't exist in a vacuum, your country played

an important role in shaping who you are today. It is easy to imagine that if your husband

had been born in Bangladesh, you might not have fallen in love with him.

I'm all for border security, but what concerns me most is the amount of information being exchanged, how secure these computer networks are. Nothing wrong if this info is used for the right reasons, but if it falls in th wrong hands...

Unfortunately a lot of this information is already public. This thread really got me thinking about a silly arrest I got 33 years ago as an 18 year old kid for P.I. (public intoxication). It is the only arrest I ever had my entire life. At the time it was legal for 18 year olds to purchase and consume alcohol in Texas. Some friends and I were wrestling and horseplaying in the courtyard of an apartment complex and somebody called the cops thinking it was a real fight. The 3 of us were arrested for public intoxication even though we told the cops we would go inside and be quiet. I pled guilty and paid the fine and was released the following morning from jail.

For $3.57 via credit card I accessed the official Texas Department of Public Safety (State Police) Computerized Criminal History System (CCH). I ran a check on myself and found that I have no Criminal History File, Sex Offender Registration, or Name Based File in their database. All of this can be accessed in the public records via the internet and in Texas for $3.57 fee by credit card. All one needs is a name and birthdate to check on anyone...it is a public record. The Texas CCH lists from Class B Misdemeanors or higher arrests and/or convictions. So I guess they would let me into Canada. :)

Here is a list of state agencies where these records can be accessed:

http://www.casanet.org/program-management/...l-bkg-check.htm

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

I know someone who was convicted for drug dealing in the 1970s who crosses into Canada legally all the time.

Let's hear from Americans in love with Bengladeshis.
