Police Certificate - Commissionaires

Hello all,

I was looking at getting my Police Certificate and didn't realize it took so long depending where you get it from.

I am in Montreal and was going to go to the Commissionaires to do it. I also see on their website that they have a electronic version, does anyone know if that is good enough? The results are provided by email, but I don't know in what form.

https://www.commissionaires.ca/en/national/service/individual/electronic-criminal-record-checks

Or is it better to walk into their office and do it in person? I mistakenly read that it takes 24-48 hours but that was for them to fax over a copy...not get the real copy?

If anyone has a better suggestion I would love to know.

Thanks!

I was able to go to the Commissionaires this morning and they were able to see me right away (didn't know you needed an appointment, someone had missed theirs). Cost was $58 CDN and she said I can come pick it up Thursday or Friday (they will call). I was going to go to the one on Jean-Talon but they only open at noon today so I couldn't even call to ask price.

Would have done local police but I was afraid that where I live they would only want to do it in French then I would need a translation, etc.

So hopefully they call me in a few days.

I did commissionaire Ottawa since that was taking applications from USA, I had to go to my local police to get finger prints done. Then I couriered it. I asked them to make two reports on me on two sets of names. They received results from RCMP in 4 days for first report, and then 3 more days for second report. Then they couriered me. RCMP send them regular mail though. That's why there can be significant delays there. Total cost to me way over $300

(200 for first report, 50 for second report, $25 for RCMP, HST, USD 44 for courier I sent)

I didn't need to do fingerprints as I don't have a criminal record. I think the fingerprints is only a requirement if you have a criminal record or if you can't appear at the office in person because they can't verify your identity if you're not there (they needed two pieces of ID to do the certificate).

They just called me about 30 minutes ago and told me the certificate is ready. So it only took like 4 hours. Will go get it tomorrow.

I just went to the commissionairs today in Ottawa to redo my police certificate as my one last year expired. I needed to get one last July, 2013 for my DS 260. Due to a long year of having to send in corrected documents, my police certificate expired.

I don't have any criminal history but chose to get fingerprinted and the get the RCMP report done: $85 and it will be at my home in a week.

I received my case complete July 29th (last week) so I am finalizing the last of my paper work to prepare for the interview in Montreal.

1) No you need a paper version from the issuer. An email that you print out will not work. People have tried and failed

2) you only need fingerprints if you have been convicted of a crime (or are not living in Canada... since you have to go through the RCMP and I'm unsure if they do name checks for people abroad.)

Picked up my cert today. Has my full name with middle name that I don't use much (isn't on my license or passport) but they say they search for it with and without (what they told me yesterday) so better to put it then not they told me.

RCMP is finger-print based, not name based. I got two certificates just in case with two different names for myself.. To avoid any sorts of objections or administrative processing.

It's not necessarily.

I got my police certificate at an RCMP office with only a name check. Took 20 mins. They checked both my maiden and married names. Being in person to do it is a bit of a difference I think, but am not sure.

A police certificate just basically says you don't have a criminal record (not sure what it says if you do have one). If you have a criminal record, they want a copy of your record. I don't know much about that though as I have not had to do that thankfully with no criminal record.
