Voting in Canadian Federal Election from US

Just to kind of piggyback on here. How do I find out if I can vote? I poked around the elections Canada site and couldn't find anything. I haven't received any mail correspondence. I left Canada in 2012.

Pretty sure that you can't any longer. Supposedly there's a loophole where you can go back to the riding you were last registered to vote in and show them proof of your former residency, but unless you want to confirm to Elections Canada that you intend to return to Canada to reside, you're kind of SOL as far as voting from the US.

You can't vote I a Canadian election...period anymore, Harper just revoked the decision made last yr by a Canadian court and expats can't vote unless (the circumstances are very specific) - you've been a non resident less than 5 yrs and your move wasn't permanent or you have major financial something-or-other....can't remember exact details right now so don't quote me.

So yes, you're a citizen of a country but you can't vote

I got my voting packet, but yes I had to say that I plan on returning and say the date. I do plan on returning, don't know the exact date but just guessed if all went well when we would go back ideally. My brother got his voting packet as well, not sure what he put for returning, but must of put something! Neither of us have been gone more than 5 years though.

Yes, my husband can vote from Canada for US Federal elections. Since US citizens have to file taxes with Uncle Sam no matter where they live, they sure ought to be able to vote!

This rule for ex-pat Canadians may change if we can get rid of Harper, it's been getting a lot of publicity. I sure hope so!

That's only been my wish since before I even left Canada let alone started the immigration process....I Still don't know how he has lasted this long in parliament...seriously.

Think I voted in the last election...had to say I had planned to return to Canada by a certain date...... Sad to say all the leaders parties are pretty weak, don't really trust any of them. Sometimes it is best to stick to the enemy one knows!!
