Dear friends, I filed my N-400 from Houston, Texas in December 2014, and I was scheduled for an interview in August 2015(Notice Date 06/29/2015), but I just received a new notice(Notice Date 07/06/2015)from USCIS, details below:

"This is to advise you that, due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to cancel the previously scheduled interview on August,2015 at 9:00am for the above applicant. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.

We will advise you of any further action taken on this case, including any rescheduled interview information, under separate notice. "

does anyone get this notice recently?

why do I get this notice?

how long should I expect to the new rescheduled interview notice?

and what should I do now?

Many thanks for your helps and reply! :)

There is nothing you can do other than being patient. Houston is super backlogged now.

Thank you for your reply, but I don't think it is due to the backlog to desheduled my interview :( because there are many applicants who filed their applications after me (Dec 2014) about 1 to 2 months (Jan or Feb 2015), but I haven't heard anything about the interview deschedule of their cases yet.

It is not due to backlogging, they cancel your appointment because of many reasons: your background check has been cleared, they haven't received your complete A-files, short staff. And it is very popular recently.

First of all, you should know that this happens from time to time... one or two of these cases are reported on Visa Journey every couple of months, so there are probably thousands of these rescheduling cases every year.

To answer your questions:

You got this notice because USCIS isn't ready to interview you at this time. There could be several reasons:

- Office closures; these are usually weather-related.

- Accidental overbooking; your office may have booked too many applicants by accident and so they need to reschedule a few.

- Under-staffing; your office may have lost one or more interviewers and so they can't interview as many applicants as they had planned.

- Your file hasn't been received. Most offices don't wait until your application arrives from the National Benefits Center and the rest of your file arrives from wherever it is being kept. Once the NBC tells them that your background check is done, they put you inline for interview scheduling and when a slot is available, they give it to you. This is because the field office assumes that the NBC will forward your application as soon as the background check is done (or shortly after). If this doesn't happen, your field office has to reschedule the interview. Some offices will wait until the last minute, hoping that the file will arrive in time, and as a result, some applicants are rescheduled on the day of their interview.

- Your background check isn't completed. I don't really understand this one. Some applicants where told that they couldn't be interviewed because their background check wasn't done. But why would they have been scheduled for an interview before that? This may just be the same as the previous case, and the reason for the delay may have been miscommunication by the interviewer.

How long your have to wait depends on your office and on the reason for the rescheduling.

- If it was weather related, then it should be within a couple of weeks.

- If it was for overbooking and staffing reasons, then they will gradually fit in the rescheduled applicants... I would guess that this wouldn't take more than a month.

- If it's because your file or background check aren't ready, then there's no way to tell.

You are now back to being inline for an interview... when it has been 120 days from the day you were placed inline, you should definitely create an infopass appointment and ask about your application. Personally, I would give them a month from the day you got the rescheduling letter... if nothing happens, go in for an infopass... it may be useless, but it's good to check up on your application if it's been this long... hopefully you'll have a new interview letter before then.

Thanks a lot for your detailed answers ! :)

I will call the 800 number tomorrow to ask them the reason first, of course I know this will just waste my time and get no useful answers, but if there are still not any news within a month, then I will do a infopass to ask them in person.

I am just wondering that is there anyone else get the interview descheduled notice recently?

Oh! really? did you mean that you received an interview descheduled notice last Friday, but you get the interview today?

did the officer refuse to give you an interview first? then interviewed you with a good reason?

or he/she just give you the interview directly without the files, and did he/she make any decision yet?

Lemoore

I have the same issue. I had an interview this morning. I received the cancelation notice on Friday but decided to go anyway. My file was not transferred to the do.
