My wife had her medical exam today. The doctor said she doesn't need any vaccinations. However after coming home from the exam, we looked up the requirements and it seems that she should have gotten some vaccinations. Let me explain...

According to info we found online, for someone her age, my wife needs the vaccines MMR (measles/mumps/rubella) and Tdap. Her vaccination records are lost, but she gave the doctor a copy of her blood tests which show immunity to certain diseases (she doesn't need vaccines for these diseases). The tests showed immunity to measles and rubella but not mumps. Also there was no blood test done for tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis.

So it would seem that my wife needed the MMR and Tdap vaccinations. But the doctor gave her the all clear. Is that ok? He seemed very laid back. I don't know if he did things properly. Could my wife have a problem at the visa interview? Could she have a problem at the port of entry in the US?

The medical was done in Doha, Qatar.

If she doesn't have immunity against mumps then she needs to take the vaccination, unless there are strong reasons not too. E.g. I had the same as your wife, no immunity towards the mumps but because I've had such a very strong reaction to vaccinations in the last years, the doctor gave me a waiver.

Also for Tp, she needs a vaccination or show immunity. It says so in the instructions for the doctor, which you can read on CDC's website. How very strange that the doctor doesn't follow these instructions?! I would probably follow up with the embassy to make sure there's no delay once you have the interview.

If the doctor signs off on the form, then is that enough for the embassy and the port of entry? Will anyone ever look into the details beyond the doctor's guarantee? It is confusing why the doctor did not require any vaccinations, but that is his job.... The medical packet is sealed.... Should I risk further delay and confusion by asking more questions?

Was this a human certified by the Department of State to handle Medical Exams for the purpose of Immigration?

Yes? No? If no, go back to that office, talk with the owner of the facility, as it may be that you either:

1. went to the wrong place or

2. got a new hire and they not understand the protocols at all.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

The doctor told me that he gave me a waiver for the vaccination but he couldn't promise that it was accepted by thr embassy so I took that to mean that someone at the embassy will go through my medical and check that everything is correct.

What did the doctor say on the form for vaccination against mumps and td? They are suppose to write the date of vaccination or that immunity against the disease have been shown through blood test.

mallafri76: The copy of the vaccination form from the doctor shows that the doctor ticked all the required vaccinations as complete but did not write the dates for any. What should we do? Is her medical going to be accepted?
