Does she need a SSN for us to get married?

Looking at the flow chart at http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...amp;page=k1flow, It seems Natalia needs to get a SSN before we get married, and then a change of the SS card to a new name after we get married? Can we not just get married first and then apply for her SSN? We are going to get married ASAP and I'd like to streamline this if possible.

Never mind. Please remove this topic. I did the work I should have done earlier and see that Duval County Courts need her to have a SSN to get a marriage license.

From what i have read some states require both to have a SSN to obtain a marriage licence .. but NOT all i did not have one before i got married and it was no problem even though the county asked for it when we got our marriage licence .. they took my husbands and said oh we get this all time .. so make sure you check before you assume you 'have' to have one

My wife had no SSN and we married in My county. She filled out a statement that she had no SSN and they notarized it and issued the license the next day. So I would call the office that issues the marriage license as ask. There web site said you need SSN but after i called they told me that all you need was a statement saying she had no SSN.

Good luck on your own immigration journey! In answer to your question, from my own experience, you don't need a SS# in order to get married in New York State. I got my SS# after I got married, and got my Green Card. All you need is other government-issued identification (even if it is foreign. For example, a passport, driver's license, birth certificate, etc.), in order to get married here in New York State.

When I checked online, every site told me that an SSN number was required in Montana in order to get a marriage licence. However, our county clerks office said that although there was a line on their forms for the SSN, if I didn't have one, they'd just leave it blank. All I had to show was birth certificate and passport.

I got married before my SSN was ready, I dunno how it works where you are though.

we got married in oct2006 and the county (richland) didn't require marilyn an SSN they just looked for her passport and visa. after the marriage that was the time we got her SSN. if you get SSN before the marriage then you will have to change her status from single to married doesn't make sense, just my opinion but dunno how it works in other county.

We got married in Pinellas County, FL and they did not require an SSN. He showed his passport with the visa in it and they used the visa # - not questioned on it or anything.

Check some of the surrounding counties (just thought of this after my last reply) - if Pinellas allows marriage without an SSN, I'm sure other FL counties do. I would check the ones local to you (since mine isn't very close, hah) since you don't have to live in a county to get married there. Or call the clerk of the court - my county breaks down what you need if you're a citizen, a PR, a non-resident, while your's might just gear the website toward the USC (sad but true). It's possible if you talk to a person they might tell you that it's fine.
