I have a few questions about Form DS-156. I hope someone can help me.

Some questions; I answer “None”.

The online version gives the following message when I print the DS-156 form:

FILTERED NAMES

When “None” or “N/A’ are entered into any of the following fields: ‘Other Surnames Used’, ‘Other First and Middle Names Used’, and ‘National Identification Number’, the text will be removed by the EVAF software from the data in the 2D barcode. It the applicant’s name actually is None or NA the post must enter the name manually into NIV or RDS. The following fields have been removed:

- ‘None’ was removed for the 2D barcode for Item 8 (Other Surnames Used)

- ‘None’ was removed for the 2D barcode for Item 9 (Other First and Middle Names Used)

- ‘None’ was removed for the 2D barcode for Item 14 (National Identification Number)

Does this mean I should not enter either ‘None’ or ‘N/A’?

Question 20: Name and address of Present Employer or School:

Alla is unemployed at the present time [per my request]. I thought it more important that she spend as much time with family and friends before coming to the US. Should I put ‘None [unemployed]’ as the answer to this question? Or leave it blank?

*****

Question 21: Present Occupation:

Since Alla is unemployed, what should I write here?

Alla’s education is as a Doctor’s Assistant [medical sister or nurse].

*****

Question 27: What is the purpose of Your Trip:

To be with my Fiance and marry him.

Is this an acceptable answer?

*****

Question 32: Do you intend to work in the US?

Alla plans to work at a later date, but does it matter if we check ‘Yes’ or ‘No’? We do not want to lie.

If we check ‘Yes’, is this an acceptable answer?

None as of this moment. Fiancee applicant will apply for work authorization after marriage.

*****

Thank you for any and all help.

God Bless.

Edmond

I'm sure that being unemployed at the time that anyone completes this form is the norm. Most people leave their jobs if when they're approved they leave their country immediately.
