I-134 questions (split topic)

The correct part is that they do have to show for their family size. The incorrect part is that they cannot combine incomes together. They're married. They likely file their taxes jointly. They SHOULD combine their incomes. Their HOUSEHOLD income, when combined, needs to meet or exceed the guideline for their household PLUS the immigrant.

Mary = $15000

Joe = $15000

Together = $30000

If they have no children, before the immigrant, their household size is 2. Plus the immigrant = 3.

Currently for a household of 3, they need to make $25,112. So they make enough TOGETHER for Mary to joint sponsor your spouse and Joe to be her household member combining his income with hers.

If they were not married or related, they could not combine their income in this manner. But because you said they were married, they can.

just wondering, does this works for the k1 visa as well? example, can i ask a random couple (mom,dad mostly) that married and file taxes jointly, does that means they can also combine their income for the i-134?, iam new at this and still learning.

Not sure about the I-134. This is question best asked in the K1 forum. For the eventual I-864 that must accompany the adjustment of status, yes.

In general, no. The I-134 does not allow for combining incomes. The person filling out the I-134 should qualify with their own individual income amount for their household size plus the foreign fiance(e). However, you can always have each parent supply an I-134 with their most recent joint filing and proof of income from both of them(employer letter and/or recent pay stubs). It could not hurt to try it, though keep in mind that some consulates are more strict about the finances than others. You have no timeline showing what consulate you will go through.
