Hi, I have question: if the petitioner filing the I-864 includes the beneficiary's savings to exceed the 125% poverty guideline, must these savings deposited in a US bank to be considered? Or Any bank in the beneficiary's country are considered?

I have asked this question on here as well as to several people at NVC and to the US embassy in Stockholm, which will handle my interview. Unfortunately, I've gotten different answers, even from people at NVC, so I think it comes down to "trial and error". If you have a joint sponsor lined up, I would use that. My husband and I were gonna use the assets we have in my name in Sweden but also send in a joint sponsor, to make sure we didn't get a checklist. Unfortunately, we had issues with our joint sponsor, so now we are going with just assets in Sweden, except for a couple of thousand in the US.

I can see from your timeline that you've had an incredibly fast process, less than 100 days from NOA1 till you got your interview date so maybe then just give it a go with your assets. At the interview, if the embassy says you need a joint sponsor, that's only gonna prolong your process with maybe a month so.... Good luck! I can let you know what NVC says about our assets in about a month.

Thanks for reply :-)

The process was fast because we are DCF. So everything is handled in the beneficiary's country (Italy in my case) by the US consulate.

We have a joint sponsor but the situation is very complicated so I am afraid I could have issues with that. So I would like to know if my savings deposited in Italy are an alternative option.

Since the issue of assets, and particularly assets in the beneficiary's country, is very embassy specific, you should probably post in the Europe specific forum and hopefully someone who's gone through the Italian embassy with assets in Italy can help. Some embassies will allow them, others won't. I have spoken to the Swedish embassy, who said they will accept assets but I believe it when I have them approved. :)

By the way, just making sure that you know that any assets you use must be three times the poverty guideline?!
