EAD approved March 4 but not received until end of April, SSN still pending verification. Why?

Wife got her EAD approved on March 4th but due to some mishap with USCIS, she didn't get the combo card until the end of April. Once she had the card we went and applied for a SSN. It's been over 2 weeks and nothing in the mail yet. She called today and they said they were still verifying her EAD with the Dept of Homeland Security.

Does it really take 2 months for them to verify the EAD? Has this happened to anyone?

2007: Met through online gaming community - talked via IM often

2012-07: Started talking daily on Skype

2012-09-25: Began dating

2012-12-27: She visited me - met face to face in LA.

2013-04-24: I visited her in Sweden

2013-06-12: She flew here and spent the summer with me

2013-07: Began discussing plans for her moving here permanently, filing K-1, etc

2013-12-26: I fly to Sweden again.

2014-1-1: Proposed (officially) on New Years :)

If it's taking this long to verify then there is an issue with her SAVE entry in the database. Some kind of name or DOB mismatch is the most likely reason. When something like this happens they have to manually verify the document with USCIS, and this takes weeks.

Yes it took my sister 6 weeks to verify, she applied as soon as she arrived though.

Update! Wife called today and they told her they just approved it. :) They said we should get it in a couple weeks.
