Hey everyone,

My fiance lived in the States for two years on a J1 work visa and went back to South Africa in Feb 2015. She is getting her cert. from the SA police monday but will she still need a cert. from the States as she was a resident for more than 12 months? Where could I find this information? thank you everyone in advance.

I was in the US on a J-1 for a total of four years and was told I wont need a police record for the USA, as they check you out during the background checks anyway.

Maybe someone who is all done with the K-1 can confirm that?

Edit: I was just looking at your timeline and it says Armenia for your country and Texas Service Center (TSC), with a sent date of 11 days from now - you might want to fix that :-)

Also, check your receipt number - if it says WAC before the numbers you are actually at California Service Center and got routed there from the Dallas Lockbox (which aimes to distribute applications evenly between Texas and Cali, or so they say. TSC and the Lockbox are two completely different places).

If it says SRC you really are at TSC and wont need the police certificate for a long time yet :-( How long are they valid for in South Africa?

good luck!
