I called NVC last evening (around 5:30pm EST) and was told our case was in Pre-Sort, then called back this morning (10:15am EST) and was told they don't have it. I am not sure what to make of this response. They keep giving different timeframes for how long it takes to transfer from USCIS to NVC from 30-45 days when I call, but from what I am seeing here on VJ it isn't taking more than two weeks (especially from TSC). I have the notice that it was sent over a week ago and am just frustrated, I just wish some part of this process would go smoothly and efficiently...

Any suggestions?

If they told you it's in "pre-sort", then they must at least have information that your packet is there, unless they typed in the wrong receipt number and it happened to belong to someone else (extremely unlikely).

I would suggest calling them this week on Thursday or Friday. Someone suggested, and I tend to agree, that people get more information about their NVC status on these days. At the very least, keep calling them, you will get your case number soon!

I've read and contributed to dozens of NVC-related threads. You are the first to mention pre-sort. Haven't heard that one before.

No reason to panic yet. Out of the countless cases I've seen on VJ that went from TSC to NVC, only one got "lost" and took more than a month to reach NVC. As you said yourself, it can take up to two weeks from TSC to NVC.

It happened to me one time. I called up NVC, they said, "Yep, your petition has arrived!" and I got super happy. Alas, she crushed my heart when I gave her my fiancee's name and she replied, "Oh whoops, I think I typed in the wrong number. Can you tell me the number again? Oh never mind, sorry, we have no record of your case." Edited to add: since they ask for the beneficiary's name to verify, you're right, I doubt that's what happened to Plat900.

Gosh! That's awful. Especially since I see in your timeline you had to wait for four months to get to get to the NVC!!!! You were one of the one's whose cases were mis-routed? That in itself would be a huge let down. Waiting five months, then transferred to CSC, thinking approval is imminent, which it is - approved in one month!! Then, oh wait, where were we supposed to send approved Form 129-F's? I know we process them everyday, but I forgot with this TSC bunch...only to get it back on track FOUR MONTHS LATER!

Don't worry, OP, this will probably NOT happen to you!

I called again a few minutes ago (dialed 28 times, but was on hold less than 2 minutes), now they say it was received (today) but that it hasn't been processed. They said I should call back in four weeks (saying it takes up to four weeks to process) if i haven't received a packet of instructions in the mail by this time next month.

BTW they have never asked for any information other than the USCIS case # (four separate calls), this might make sense if they haven't entered information in the system (there wouldn't be anything to check it against).

It is helpful having this forum for us to share information, it is heartening knowing that based on what I have read here I could reasonably expect to have that number by the end of this week.

Thank you, you were correct, I called was able to get the DoS Case # this morning. :) They were polite and did ask all the standard verification questions (the first operator and the second level person as well). I was not able to check the status on the ceac webpage, I keep getting the message "your search did not return any data."

Has anyone had a similar experience, is there a noted lag in time between assigning the case # and status updates being available on the state.gov site?

Congratulations! Yes, after I had my case number, my case details wouldn't load until Friday evening. The other updates also happened in my evening time. It makes me suspect that the system uploads on a batch system, so that everything that day updates at one time.

Give it a day or two. By Monday, you should be able to see the status!

Did you try searching under "immigrant visa" or "non-immigrant visa"? If you search under "immigrant" it should work, but it will come up empty if you choose "non-immigrant".
