B1 Visa for Volunteering in a museum

Hello everyone,

So I was accepted to work as a volunteer in the National Museum of Anchorage where I would help to "participate in design, set-up, filming, editing and production of finished films documenting Alaska Native cultural workshops, consultations with elders, artist events". So this is to help the local native community of Alaska and bring their culture to public awareness.

This is also linked with my associative life since I am part of a video club but not linked with my engineering studies.

Under those condition, does applying for a B1 visa as a volunteer seems OK ?

I have, unfortunately, already planned an interview at the France Embassy, it is possible to go back if I have mistaken ?

And also, what are the consequences if my application is refused by the Embassy ?

Thanks you very much for your answers.

Rivten.

Maybe a J1?

France is a VWP country.
