Name Change while waiting for K-1 to be processed

Hi all-

I've mentioned before I am pregnant. If I'm honest with myself I realize it would take a miracle for him to be here and us married before the baby is born next month. (December fliers at TSC)

My question is, I would like all of our last names the same on the babies birth certificate. If I go ahead and legally change my last name would this raise any red flags when it is time for my fiancé interview in italy?

Pretty sure you can't change it in the us you need a marriage certificate to do so and well you see where that leads, probably would be a red flag as to im assuming the only way to legally change your last name in time is through marriage I'm not aware of any other possible way but maybe someone could chime in if I happen to be wrong. Can't really happen to be honest .

you cannot change your name until you are legally married. Just think of it, you need proof to make a name change, that proof would be your marriage certificate. No marriage yet, no marriage cert yet, no name change yet

Thank you for the feedback. However, it is possible, and fairly easy to change your name to anything you want, married or unmarried. I just don't want to raise a red flag, or USCIS think we are married when we are not.

Why not put the baby's last name as a mixture of the two on the birth certificate and then just change yours when you marry?

Is that not possible?

-edit sorry not mixture.

But I know some places alow you to use the fathers name before marriage for babies.

Have you tried ringing the registrar and asking?

Cody and Daisy, yes, I have thought of both :) Both are possible. I guess I am crazy pregnant, hormonal, and sentimental!

Ain't nothing wrong with that!

I'm hoping I'll be one myself soon!

At the end of the day, do what you feel is right, changing your name before marriage could put up a red flag.

So in my humble opinion, put your babies name the way you want it and then when you get married it be easier to change your name with your marriage certificate. That way you don't have to pay and apply though the court to change yours now.
