Do you need a Marriage certificate if you have a death certificate?

Hi VJers. Does anyone know about this?

My Fiance was previously married. She does not have a marriage certificate.

She got divorced and she has an official (stamped) Divorce Order, but not the Divorce Certificate.

Her ex husband passed away and she has an official Death Certificate.

Her interview is scheduled for May 6th in Montreal. If she has the Death Certificate, does she need a Marriage Certificate?

Does the I-129f application ask for the original marriage certificate? I don't remember sending one (but I sent a lot of things, so I don't remember everything). The divorce document is the most important (and should state the date of the marriage being dissolved).

If they are asking for an official marriage certificate, that is what you need

For my husband's previous marriage, we only supplied the divorce information, not their marriage certificate. So, +1 to above post - use the divorce order, because that's the bit that matters.

I agree with both - send what the instructions ask for. If they ask for the marriage certificate, send one (you can get it from the county court where the marriage took place...and many are available online). If it doesn't ask for the marriage certificate, don't worry about it.

"Death and/or divorce certificate(s)" will be the line that applies to a previous marriage.

Wow, thanks everyone!! We'd hate to be denied a Visa for the lack of the proper certificate! I also think her Divorce Order should suffice since it has the raised seal. She just never bothered to get the actual certificate.
