Hi all!

Just had my medical at Medisys in Montreal this morning and I thought I would post a review for those who may want the information. It was a brisk 20 minute walk from the Holiday Inn Express on Boulevard Rene Levesque up to 500 Sherbrook. Got there right on time, went to 11th floor and I was the last immigration appointment of the day.

The receptionist asked for my passport, my interview letter, immunization booklet (or proof of immunization), and 5 passport pictures. After I gave her all of this, she gave me a clipboard with a medical questionaire and a release to the consulate.

The waiting room was not very busy, maybe 10 people all told. I only had to wait about 20 minutes after handing back the clipboard when I was called by the lab tech, a very nice woman who took my height, weight, blood pressure and pulse. She took a copy of my immunization proof and informed me that I needed no shots. Yay!! But, she said she needed to take some blood and that nobody was ever excited about that...so I said "yay!" to make her feel better and she laughed and thanked me. After that she had me read from the eye chart, then sent me to the waiting room.

I didn't even get seated when the doctor called me in. The doctor was another nice lady. She asked me if I was applying to become a permanent resident of the US and who was sponsoring me. Then she went over the questionnaire with me, and then had me take off everything except my underwear and put on a gown. She had me stand and walk toward her on my tiptoes, and then turn and walk toward the wall and walk on my heels. Then I was to face her and touch my toes. Next on the exam table, she checked my eyes, ears and throat. She listened to my breathing, and then checked my reflexes. Then she had me lay down and she felt my neck / throat, and then my abdomen. That was it, got dressed and went back to the waiting room.

Last but not least the chest x-ray. The tech was a nice young man who asked me and the other woman who was called if we spoke English or French. I told him he had better use English, as I speak pathetic French. The other lady said hers was equally pathetic and we all laughed and went into change rooms. Had to remove everything including bra, they took a shot from the back and the right side, then we got dressed.

Finally time to pay, a grand total of $307.56, this included the x-ray but no immunizations, and all taxes. They give you an itemized receipt of everything included in the price. I was told to call them on Friday to see if I can pick up the results then. We arrived at 11:15 AM and were done at just before 1:00 PM.

If anyone has any questions, please ask away and I will watch this thread. Feel free to PM me as well. We don't have much more to do here before the interview on the 10th, so we will be enjoying the sights in Montreal, maybe hop a train to Quebec City.

Thanks for reading! :)

Great review!! Thank you :)

I've been toying with the idea of going up to Montreal early to do the medical so that we (family) can have a mini-vackay too. My two girls speak French and I have been wanting to take them up there anyways..... I think the deciding factor will be when we get our interview and what time off can we get/afford around then.... I'm guessing we will probably end up with a July interview, and the Just for Laughs festival is mid-late July and hotels will fill up quickly!

can we do the medical before the interview?

Yes definitely! In fact as I understand it, it is required that your medical be done prior to the interview, far enough in advance that the results can be either forwarded to the consulate or prepared for you to pick up before your interview. Your results must be available to the interviewer on the day of your interview.

Sorry I should have been more clear. Yes the medical cannot be booked until after you have made the interview appointment, but must be completed before the interview. The appointment confirmation letter is needed when you attend your medical appointment.

Great review. I am not landed at that stage at all, but still nice to read about it.

I hope you enjoy your time in Montreal even with the cold and snowy weather. Have to find things to do indoors!

For the IR1/CR1 visa our interviews are scheduled for us by NVC. K1s schedule their own. Yes, you must have your interview letter to attend a medical, and it is best to schedule your medical as soon as you know when your interview date is because they need 3 to 4 days to process your blood work and do the medical results for you to take to the interview.

Thanks! It is quite cold, lots of snow too. We are doing lots of walking, there is a lot to see. It reminds me of when I was over in Europe. The architecture here is beautiful. It is beautifully sunny and COLD today. I think we will walk up to the consulate to scope things out, and maybe pop into the mall on the way back.
