You will not know until they send you a letter with the NVC case number. Right now, it takes approx. 35 days from date of approval to getting a case number. Call NVC if its been more than 35 days. Ours got approved on Dec 8,2014, sent to NVC Dec.15, NVC received it Dec 22 (according to the agent I spoked to) and until today, they havent created a case number.

It takes 42-49 days for your NVC case be assigned. If you did not catch number assignment date over the phone, NVC will send you a letter in a mail with the number, unless, I believe, you have originally submitted a request with the USCIS to receive correspondence via email (I am not sure about the last point).

------

I-130 (as part of IR-5 process) - USCIS (Nebraska Service Center)

06/09/14 - sent I-130

06/14/14 - NOA 1

11/14/14 - NOA 2 (5 months)

AOS (Local Office: Denver)

03/24/15 - AOS packet sent via USPS Priority Mail (I-485, I-765 & I-131 w/ approved I-130)

03/26/15 - package delivered according to USPS website

04/01/15 - email notifying the AOS package has been received

04/02/15 - an AOS fee withdrawn from a bank account

04/09/15 - received hard copies of all three NOAs (NOAs dated 04/01/15)

04/28/15 - Biometrics

05/08/15 - online status changed to "Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview"

05/18/15 - online status changed to I-765 approved-wait the card in the mail (no change for I-131) (80 days)

05/19/15 - received EAD/AP in the mail

05/28/15 - online status changed to "As of June 28, case is ready to be scheduled for an interview." This is the second time of such change since 05/08/15.

07/05/15 - online status changed to "As of July 5, case is ready to be scheduled for an interview." How many times are they going to update that status, I wonder?

12/18/15 - still waiting!!! For almost 9 months now (261 days from AOS NOA, 234 days from Biometrics).

01/14/16 - submitted "out-of-normal processing time" inquiry and called USCIS that stated the case is still at NBC and "inquiry" should answer why there is such delay.

01/15/16 - 294 days since the AOS was received by the USCIS; 262 days from the biometrics.

01/28/16 - [day 309] received response to case status inquiry (processed on 01/23/15) - "your case is waiting to be scheduled for interview," so wait another 90 days [sigh].

02/21/16 - [day 332] interview scheduled for 03/24/16 [363 days from the receipt of petition].

02/24/16 - [day 363] AOS interview. Approval on the spot.

Is it normal to not get reply from NVC for over a month after the NVC case number is generated? From all the timelines I have seen the bills get generated within days or a max a week after the case number is known.

My application was received by NVC on 12/9/2014 and I called and found out the case number was assigned on 1/13/2015, but I still do not have a cheklist from them. The bill has not been invoiced either. I called several times, once they said it takes 28 days from case # to get the email with next steps, next time they said we're in administrative processing and they do not know how long it will take. I am getting worried. What's been your experience?

Did you fill up the DS 261 yet? Once u fill out that one online, you'll be invoice right away for the AOS. Thats what happened to me unless theres a huge back log.

Me too I am waiting to be invoiced for the IV bill but its been 2 weeks.

Thank you for your response. No, I cannot file DS 261 yet either, it doesn't go through. This is the message I get:

Please be advised that the case that you have attempted to access is not eligible for further processing by the National Visa Center at this time. Please contact the National Visa Center if you believe that you have received this message in error.

I have not gotten invoiced for AOS or IV. When I go to pay the bills, they both say 0.

Huh.. If you said you got you case number since January, you should have got the IIN number as well. They provide both of these over the phone.

Once you get them go to that link for file Choice of Agent so NVC knows who to bill for AOS and Visa fee and send you other correspondence.

I did get the IIN at the same time I got the case number over the phone. I have been trying to fill out the DS-261 form on that exact link almost every day since. It does not go through.

NVC has my email and my mother's - they know who to bill. I guess they are in no rush to get the money :) I don't know what else to think.

Try calling them, I guess that's the only way to find out. Because NVC recieved my parents' case on Dec.22, assigned me the Case and IIN on january 27, I filed DS 261 next day and paid AOS fee that same day.

teachermarites, thanks for pushing me to call again. I call weekly about this and usually get told to keep waiting.... they have no idea how excruciating the wiating is.

I called today and was told the DS-261 link won't work until they send me the email with the case #, IIN, checklist, etc. I was also told I have not been invoiced yet so the link won't work because of that. And as to the question for why it's taking them this long to send this email, they have no answer. Today's rep said it should come any day but to call back in 2 weeks.

So, then I asked to talk to a supervisor. Who kind of confirmed this delay was unusual. Said it was due to a technical issue that the DS-261 was giving me that error message. She said she has to talk to another department to check on it / straighten it out and will get back to me. I'll post back after I know more. Thanks again for your help!

Hello,

I am browsing the stories of different petitioners trying to figure out why "Payment Status" for Immigrant Visa application still shows "Not Invoiced".

As I see, other people get invoices for IV and several days/weeks later they send AOS and IV docs to NVC.

Now, as I understand, I can send only my AOS docs. Can I do at least that step now? It means step 4 is going to be ahead of step 3 (as per these here - http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents.html).

Is it particular reason of that kind of delay for IV invoice? Or there is some kind of mistake in my case? Any suggestions?

Thank you!

---

p.s. Just in case - info about my applications:

USCIS (Chicago Lockbox)
09/29/14 - sent I-130 for both parents (in one package)
02/10/14 - they received both I-130

NVC
01/08/15 - got an WELCOME LETTER (PAOSF) emails from NVC with NVC Case numbers and Invoce ID Nimbers (3 months 10 days from the day I-130 form was sent).
01/10/15 - DS-261 Completed for both parents.
01/25/15 - AOS bill paid

??/??/15 - IV Invoice "NOT INVOICED" YET (as per 02/21/2015)

CALL NVC now!

I paid the AOS fee about 3 weeks now and I was really wondering how come NVC didnt invoice me yet.

I called them and waited for 1 hour to talk to someone. Guess what? The lady told me, okay, let me update your case.

24hours after that, I got an invoice. I will pay tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing your experience, teachermarites. My case is different. I am unable to pay AOS fee either, it says $0. And the DS-261 page still shows an error. I have called three times since, spoke with supervisors, they still have no news for me, no Welcome letter/email has come.
