Is a passport required for my K1 Visa application?

11. Copy of the Birth certificate (front and back) for the US Citizen or a copy of ALL pages of the US Citizen's passport issued with a validity of at least 5 years or a copy of the US Citizen's naturalization certificate (front and back). This is used to establish citizenship.

I was researching what I need to gather for the petition and I noticed that it requires a passport which I do not have. I've never had one. I haven't traveled outside of the US. My fiance visits me. Is this going to prove a problem?

Is a passport 100% required?

Choose one of the options to prove your citizenship, so nope not having a passport is a non-issue since your fiancee visits you in the US.

Get a certified copy of your BC and you won't need a US Passport.

OP: You do not need a passport for the K-1 petition, but I would strongly suggest you get one so you and your husband can travel in the future. Having a passport is a nice piece of ID that covers you when you change states and are without a current DL in your new state. It also helps the DMV in issuing you that new DL--BTDT. Also, if you apply for a US passport now, you will not have to expidite the application when you husband wants to go back home and take you with him.

September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned
September 10, 2011: Emailed AOS package
September 12, 2011: IV bill invoiced
September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)
September 14, 2011: Emailed IV package
October 3, 2011: Emailed checklist response (checklist generated due to typo on Form DS-230)
October 6, 2011: Case complete at NVC
November 10, 2011: Interview - APPROVED!!!
December 7, 2011: POE - Sea-Tac Airport

September 17, 2013: Mailed I-751 to CSC

September 23, 2013: Received NOA1 in mail (receipt date September 19th)

October 16, 2013: Biometrics Appointment

January 28, 2014: Production of new Green Card ordered

February 3, 2014: New Green Card received; done with USCIS until fall of 2023*

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal
