I'm struggling to find any books on current day Filipino's experiences of moving from Philippines to USA. Going through the same situation as many of us will, are or currently going through when it comes to our fiance's immigration to the USA.

Have you guys found any?

There really is no books that I am aware of a wealth of information here on VJ. So a search in the search box in the upper right hand corner and you will get many hits. Also use google and do the same. Lots of experiences out there that you can read but no in book format.

Greenbaum,

I see. I will continue to search my friend.

Me and my fiance are trying something different to pass by these 2 months here and further grow our communication with one another. So I suggested why don't we pick out some books and decide on one to read together and discuss over Skype. Our little book club haha. I actually found some good books by some Filipino american authors here in USA. Shared below. Including my other book suggestions to her haha. No judging! This was my honest 1st attempt. Knowing her she is going to bring back all romance love stories. I guess you can tell which 2 is more of my taste.

My Book Suggestions:
1. INKHEART - fantasy/adventure story -One cruel night, Meggie's father reads aloud from a book called INKHEART-- and an evil ruler escapes the boundaries of fiction and lands in their living room. Suddenly, Meggie is smack in the middle of the kind of adventure she has only read about in books. Meggie must learn to harness the magic that has conjured this nightmare. For only she can change the course of the story that has changed her life forever. This is INKHEART--a timeless tale about books, about imagination, about life.
2. ENDER'S GAME - SciFi - Andrew "Ender" Wiggin thinks he is playing computer simulated war games at the Battle School; he is, in fact, engaged in something far more desperate. Ender is the most talented result of Earth's desperate quest to create the military genius that the planet needs in its all-out war with an alien enemy. Is Ender the general Earth needs? The only way to find out is to throw the child into ever harsher training, to chip away and find the diamond inside, or destroy him utterly. Ender Wiggin is six years old when it begins. He will grow up fast. But Ender is not the only result of the experiment. The war with the Formics has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Ender's two older siblings, Peter and Valentine, are every bit as unusual as he is, but in very different ways. Between the three of them lie the abilities to remake a world. If, that is, the world survives.
3. MIRROR OF MY PAST- A story about a Filipina woman who immigrated to USA.(Filipino Author)
4. ANGELICA'S DAUGHTERS - A story about some Filipina women who moved to USA at very young age and their romances growing up and them wanting to find their Filipino roots (4 Filipina woman write this story together)
5. FILIPINO AMERICAN CHILDREN - This book is dedicated to the present generation of American children whose lives are enriched by the multi-cultural diversity of people coming from all over the world. In particular, this book focuses on the traditions and customs of Filipino culture and how Filipino American children could trace and find the roots of their identity through their parents' beautiful cultural heritage.
6. CONTEMPORARY FICTION BY FILIPINOS IN AMERICA - The stories in this collection, written by Filipinos in America or by Filipinos who have lived in America for a long time, are as varied as the men and women who move in them, confronted as they are by current issues such as gender, AIDS, Filipino-American dislocations, and disconnections from here. (Filipino author)
7. PHILIPPINE PRINCESS - Life, Death, Hope, Despair, Tears, Joy, Lonliness and Love - it is all here in Philippine Princess." Emily was born in the Philippines and, as a young girl, had always dreamed of being a princess. As she grew older and wiser, she decided being a princess was just a dream. Her story is no dream. After training as a midwife, she travelled overseas to work. Far from her family and friends, she finds life hard, especially when she receives some devastating news about her brother. What will happen to her brother and how will Emily cope. Follow her journey as she discovers life can be very hard. No matter how hard things become, remember that life can suddenly change. You do not have to be a princess to have dreams and fall in love. Sometimes your dreams can come true. Buy Philippine Princess for a wonderful, heart warming story of adventure, friendship, heart-break and finding love. (Filipino Author)

Just make sure you have a good internet connection, and locate the nearest Asian store, major mall, and Catholic church, and her adjustment will be much easier on your part. As a plus, look for several Fil-Am couple in your area, and make contact. My wife's "Dream Girl's of Santa Rosa" had 10 couples at the last Christmas dinner.

As an add, the experiences of "mail order brides" are different than the experiences of other Filipinos coming to America. The wives tend to get the cold shoulder from those Filipinos. Don't be too shocked at that.

TLC has a series to watch.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
