2 months after biometrics, still no "in-line" status

So it's been about 2 months since my biometrics, and my case is still languishing as "Case was received," and while I got a yellow letter shortly after the biometrics, I haven't gotten anything since. I've noticed that people who are from the same city as me but who filed weeks later have already been placed "in line." Should I be worried about this? Is there anything that can be done to check up on my case?

Hey All,

My application was received on Jan. 15, 2015. I've done my biometrics back in Feb. I've received no notices after that. As of today, Jun. 18, 2015, my online status still shows "Case was received". I've gone to an InfoPass appointment and called the service center multiple times, but have been blown off each time with the standard "your application is still within the processing time" reply.

Any suggestions on how to get this application moving again?

Hi,

They finally put me in line for interview yesterday (7/20/15). The step that delayed my case was the FBI name check. Typically they should resolve everything within six months even if the name got a hit . USCIS should be able to tell you what exactly is causing the delay. In my case, the first time I went for an Infopass, the officer was clueless. The second time, another officer told me it's the FBI name check, which cleared for me after 5 months.

Hope everything went well.

Was your field office LA office? Or LA County office?

Thanks for the response

It's the LA County office, although it doesn't really matter. Typically, the whole process should take around 5 months or less. The delay almost always is due to the background check, unless they somehow messed up and your application is just sitting in some officer's back drawer, which although rare, is not unheard of. One officer I talked to said this one person's GC application took over 18 months, and after he finally called the national benefits center, it turned out there was a slight issue with the contrast of his application picture that needed fixing, and the application was then forgotten about and just sat there the whole time. Good luck!
