everyone else who watched a man scream 11 times that he couldn't breathe and left him there to die while not doing anything to help him.

This is the part that bothered me. A bunch of cops standing around and no one helping him. Lost posted an article that 4? of the paramedics have been suspended and the takedown officer was two as he has had past incidents.

He didn't seem to be a menace, but he had been arrested 30 times in the past. I have no idea what for.

Selling untaxed cigarettes. That was his crime.

If he was white, we wouldn't even be talking about this.

Probably because the cop that did this would be in jail. Charged with a homicide.

Maybe you should rethink posting on a forum such as this. If racist comments are your only resort, you lack the skill and intelligence to carry on in a conversation such as this.

You automatically assume that everything is about race. If a topic begins to steer off the topic of race, it's your will to make sure it gets steered right back to that topic. I am not sure whether it's possible for you to address a topic and see it without color? Is it? How about giving it a try?

All 30 prior arrests were for selling untaxed cigarettes?

Garner had a criminal record that includes more than 30 arrests dating back to 1980 on charges such as assault, resisting arrest, grand larceny. An official said the charges include multiple incidents in which he was arrested for selling unlicensed cigarettes.

Hey if that keeps the racist boogeyman alive and well for you, have at it. Must be nice. I wish I lived in a fantasy land where everything bad that happened could be blamed on something else rather than those responsible. You should write a novel, or sell a screenplay. You have an incredible imagination.

i doubt it. white or black, cops don't get indicted or charged with anything easily. as we're witnessing..

That's why I said probably. They have it rough, having to deal with the worst of society, but in this case, they should have handled the case better.

selling loosies bs.i think having multiple wreckless driving tickets is more dangerous/criminal than selling single cigarettes on the corner. feds are really only interested in those selling cartons upon cartons, out of state etc. that's where the real money is.

So he had resisted arrest before and was arrested for assault? Is it possible he was pretty well known to these cops and that's why they got physical with him? Obviously he didn't deserve to die but I don't think the police were trying to kill him either. My problem with this case lies with what happened after he was taken down and became unresponsive.

He was arrested for other things in the past according to the link Marvin posted.

The store owners where he was selling his loosies had been complaining about him to the police for several days. It appears that he was intimidating store customers and even prevented them from entering. He had become a know neighborhood menace.
