Hello everyone,

I just had an interview today at Riyadh US embassy and the CO said we need a joint sponsor.

My husband is earning more than 46000$ annually which is above the poverty line but the CO said he must present at least 150,000$ asset because our household size is 4 since we already have 2 children. But on the site of USCIS http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-864p.pdfhis income is way above the poverty line. We're so confused. We can ask his sister who's in the US to be his joint sponsor but will surely delay our process.

Hoping for some clarification on this one.

Thank you in advance!

Strange... Did he have steady income for the past 3 years ?.. is he self employed ?

He's employed with the same company for the past 3 years, almost 4 now actually. Got a raise too after he's done with his masters degree. I was also required to submit a new photo since my face on the photo we submitted last year looks slimmer than what I look now. (My post baby chubby face.)

Working in Saudi?

Ohhh... that's why.. did he getting job transfer to U.S ? .. You should submit all docs from Joint sponsor.

You hit on the reason. He has a job now in Saudi, but without proof of a transfer to the USA keeping that income, he has no proof of the required future income. Past income shows you're stable with income, but you also need income that will continue after returning to the USA.

Oh, now we see why, so a joint sponsor is a must for our case. Thank you so much for all the response. =)

Strange , exactly as his income qualifies. This is the poverty guideline, http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-864p.pdf, and for a family of 4, even if it is only your husband providing the affidavit of support , his income qualifies. Why the $150,000 asset. The instruction is very clear , if the petitioner's income will not suffice then assets can back it up. Also , it's not that you multiply by the number of family members , I think you will not multiply 4 by $29,812 (which is the poverty guideline for a family of 4) but you will multiply this number by 125% which gives you $37,265. As you mentioned your husband's annual income is around $46,000 , then he qualifies. I stand corrected though, but I prepared the I-864s and it went just fine.I don't really think your husband needs a co-sponsor, I would re-submit an I-864 when asked. If his sister can co-sponsor , the better.

My daughter is in administrative processing too, they asked for pictures and medical records of my pregnancy with her. No records, I gave birth to her through a midwife that unfortunately passed away and who takes pictures that time, sometimes they ask for "impossible things" , I can't even afford a camera that time 1995, who ever thougth of cameras (selfies were never a thing before, wish FB was in that time) when you only think only of how to earn a living to support your family, I was a single mom back then. Anyway, we decided to havea a DNA test which cost a whooping $705. Big for us who do not only support ourselves here but also our family back home. This is is what it is , it ' s alright she will have a better future when here.

I wish you good luck, just hang in there. It will be alright soon. There is always light at the end of a tunnel, right?

I hope this information can help.

Always a good idea to read the subsequent posts not just the original one.
