Hello,

My fiance is scheduled to fly this Friday into Chicago from Beijing on a K-1 Visa. She received her packet & passport/visa back, but the instructions for the Entry Process are the following:

"You must hand carry your X-rays when you travel to the United States so that you can present them to the US Immigration Inspector at the Port of Entry along with your immigration visa packet. DO NOT PLACE YOUR X-RAYS IN YOUR LUGGAGE."

She submitted her x-rays to the Embassy and never got them back. We contacted the Ebmassy by phone, and they didn't have an answer on anything. Th said to contact them by e-mail instead, with no response yet. She flies in 4 days, so we are getting nervous!! Also, the hospital would not give us copies or do new x-rays without the Embassy's approval (hospital: "check with the Embassy").

I know the reason to hand carry is because you go through Customs before getting your luggage, so you need them on your person. However, I have read a mix of people bringing their x-rays, and other not saying anything about bringing x-rays at all. I've also never read an instance in which they were ever read, looked at, or even asked for. As stated elsewhere, they are CBP, not doctors...

A few questions:

1) Do K-1 instruction sheets from their Embassy (either in China or elsewhere) instruct people to bring their x-rays specifically?

(She passed the medical exam, so I'm sure that info is in the packet...)

2) Has anyone ever gone through Chicago POE on K-1 without bringing their x-rays? If so, was there any negative impact?

(I am assuming they are not in the sealed packet itself, which we can't open to check anyway)

3) Are the x-rays needed for future reference for anything else?

(Once she is on my insurance, we can get new ones here if needed)

Any help and feedback would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Sincerrely,

Keith

The X-rays are not needed for POE. If you have them, they are just like souvenirs for you. If you don't have them, don't sweat it as its not needed nor asked for.

The only thing you need at POE is the big DO NOT OPEN envelope, and of course the passport with visa.

Agree!! They most likely provide a CD, it is one of your souvenirs of the experience in Guangzhou..

My wife (NY POE) was told the same, so she dutifully had them ready for Customs.

Customs never asked for them. All they wanted was the brown envelope and of course the passport and visa.

Thanks to everyone for the replies! You helped put her worries to rest.

UPDATE: She went through Customs at Chicago POE just fine without having her physical x-rays or even a CD copy of them. I'm glad the entry part is now over... now onto the next steps, ha ha.
