Green Card received but no Social Security?

So I received my green card but I still havent received my social security card.It has been already 6 weeks but no social security card in the mail.Is this normal?

6 weeks sounds like a long time to me. I'd go to the nearest SSA with the green card and inquire there regarding the issuance of your SSN.

I got mine within one week. 6 weeks seems a long time. You might want to follow up with SSA office nearest you.

The local SS office told us they never issue a SS card until the person applies in person. I think it depends on the state, or maybe the local office. Best to go to your local office.

The system of getting a SSN by simply ticking the box on the DS-230 is sometimes a teaser....sometimes it works, sometimes it does't. If you haven't gotten a SSN by now, you should likely fill out a SS-5, with your documentation (Green Card, valid passport, etc.), go to the local SS office and inquire about your SSN, or apply for a SSN.
