My wife and I live in IL but got married in CA on Oct 25th. We have a copy of the Marriage License/Certificate mailed to us from the officiating Church. It has the date of marriage and all that stuff, but it has "COPY" watermarked over the document. The state should be sending us copies of the official certificate in about 4 weeks.

My question is, can we use this "COPY" document to get the AOS process going?

Sorry if this question is in the wrong section.

In my case, the state of Hawaii lets you download a PDF version of the marriage certificate that has a notice on the bottom that it is valid only for ninety days while the state issues the official certificate. I printed this temporary electronic version and submitted it with my AoS application with no problems. At our AoS interview they asked for the updated, permanent marriage certificate and made a copy for their records.

I got married in CA (Los Angeles County)... We used the 'copy' provided to us on the day of our wedding to include in our AOS package, as the certified certificate was going to take up to 8 weeks. It was not a problem, no RFEs.
