self-translate birth certificate for green card application?

Hello -

The application for the green card says we need a copy of the birth certificate and a translation. Can I translate it myself, or should I get some official service?

It's in Spanish and between my abilities and google translate, I'm pretty confident about a translation. But I don't want to screw anything up by doing it myself.

You can translate yourself, and attach one page where you explain that you are good in english and that you can translate.

You just have to add the box saying you are fluent in both languages and sign it

When you say box, is there a form for translation? I looked at the instructions here (http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos), but I didn't see anything about a form.
