Obama makes rare campaign trail appearance, people leave early

Reuters) - President Barack Obama made a rare appearance on the campaign trail on Sunday with a rally to support the Democratic candidate for governor in Maryland, but early departures of crowd members while he spoke underscored his continuing unpopularity.

With approval levels hovering around record lows, Obama has spent most of his campaign-related efforts this year raising money for struggling Democrats, who risk losing control of the U.S. Senate in the Nov. 4 midterm election.

Most candidates from his party have been wary of appearing with him during their election races because of his sagging popularity.

Not so Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown of Maryland, who is running for governor, and Governor Pat Quinn of Illinois, who is running for re-election. Obama plans to appear at an event for Quinn later in the evening.

"You've got to vote," Obama repeated over and over at a rally for Brown in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, near Washington.

Democrats have a history of not turning up to vote in midterm elections.

"There are no excuses. The future is up to us," Obama said.

A steady stream of people walked out of the auditorium while he spoke, however, and a heckler interrupted his remarks.

Obama's help, or lack thereof, may not matter much to Brown, who is 11 points ahead of Republican opponent Larry Hogan, according to an average of polls by RealClearPolitics.

Quinn's race is tighter. He is ahead of Republican opponent Bruce Rauner by 1.8 points, according to the RealClearPolitics average.

Obama is scheduled to spend the night at his Chicago home after the campaign event for Quinn.

Who cares. Seriously.

And 'false god'... do you actually believe that there are people who think like this? You and a few others here seem to have this idea that Obama is a quasi religious figure for many posters here, but who is it exactly who believes this? Anyone? Or is it just what you want to believe?

It's a common practice of the Tea Party types, everything needs to be vilified and have a demeaning tag name in order for them to keep that fire stoked. It's a shame they are always so angry.

I've got a couple Tea Baggers as friends on fb, they are incapable of having a political discussion without putting someone down for their beliefs and calling them names. I just attempted a conversation last week on fb about how voter fraud isn't really the problem it's made out to be and that voter id would be a waste of money for that purpose. When I asked the ** to show me any proven cases of wide scale voter fraud in the US, his reply was to call me a diseased liberal.

** = T ea B agger

Really, that term is censored?

Obviously, you did not even click the link. And obviously, there ARE people who feel that way.

Barbara Walters admitted on a broadcast appearance with Piers Morgan that maybe Christmas wasn’t the time to say it, but it’s true – the media regarded President Obama as the “next messiah” because of his promises and policies.

“He made so many promises,” she said, The Blaze reported. “We thought that he was going to be – I shouldn’t say this at Christmastime, but – the next messiah. And the whole Obamacare or whatever you want to call it, that Affordable Health Act, it just hasn’t worked for him and he’s stumbled around on it, and people feel very disappointed because they expected more.”

It is not surprising though. They are losing support of the less unaware amongst their fifth columnists. Their constituents ended up with egg on their faces as a result of the ineptitude and lack of action by the TBs they elected. In the end, the Teas proved to be just as bad, if not worse, as the Dems and Reps they criticize, as Boehner continues to be their biggest disappointment.

Well dave, it's not exactly a rational position to ascribe religious significance to politicians. I don't do it, I don't know anyone who does. Why it should hold any sigificance to you about what Barbara Walters says, as if this is somehow a meaningful assessment of a the country at large - I really couldn't say.

Perhaps you can.

When Piers Morgan insults our 2nd every week you believe that was an assessment of the country at large.

Yes really, I learned the hard way *ea *agger is runs us afoul of the rules..even though Random House puts it in their dictionary. Guess the admins looked at the Urban Dictionary version

The content available on a site dedicated to bringing folks to America should not be promoting racial discord, euro-supremacy, discrimination based on religion , exclusion of groups from immigration based on where they were born, disenfranchisement of voters rights based on how they might vote.

I don't rate or quote Piers Morgan. That would be an inaccurate assumption on your part.

Walters is a TV personality. She's not part of the political landscape, that you believe she is tells me that you can't tell the difference between a politician and a TV presenter

It's because it is a derogatory term used to belittle or degrade a identifiable segment of the population, or something like that. It's usually only a problem if it's sued to degrade people of certain very large religion or the second biggest minority group in the US. Although here lately I have seen some stuff slide, that even raised my eyebrows on the later demographic.

Right wing nut job, tin foil hat wearing tea party members, worthless fat slobs etc etc seems to be all in the ok zone

You asked if anyone seriously thought like this. I pointed out that Barbara Walters said, publicly, that she did. So obviously someone does think like this. It also follows that no human being is alone in their thoughts, so obviously, there are others who feel the same way she does. Just trying to answer your questions in a way that is easy to comprehend.

If you thought the messiah part of that quote is the thing to focus on I think you're missing the point.
