I130 to k1 question

Hi all, my question is: an unmarried son over 21 has an approved I 130 (and is waiting on nvc for priority date) is going to get married to a citizen, what are the steps that have to be taken? I've looked around but haven't found any information. Thank you in advance

They are two completely different visa paths.

The US citizen would need to petition for a K1 fiance visa as normal.

I see, but isn't the I 130 the same for both?

The I-130 is used for a spousal visa. If they get married first, then the USC spouse files an I-130 for them. If they are not yet married, then they can go for a fiance(e) visa to use to enter the US and marry in the US within 90 days of entry. You start that process for a K-1 with an I-129F petition. It is not the same process.

Ohh now I see, I always thought that the I-130 was the same for both, because it goes through the uscis.
