Throwaway Ticketing?

(MODS I don't know if I can post this here)

I've been searching for flight from Manchester (UK) to DFW end of November time, Now one way tickets are £800+

while return would only cost around £500?

If for example i buy a return (But don't return) At my POE would they ask to see my ticket?

Would I get into trouble for doing this "throw away ticketing"? I mean, I really don't want to pay £300 more for the same

flight, That has the same layover time and arrives at DFW the same time.

Anyone got any tips or tricks?

Lots of people do this. It won't be a problem. Just remember to cancel your return leg once you reach the US, as there has been rare cases where the airlines falsely reported that the traveler left on the return leg when they didn't.

POE does not care about your ticket. Do what Lainie said.

Yeah fly and cancel your return ticket when you arrive.

There are a few airlines that do reasonable singles from the UK though; Aer Lingus, Icelandair and Norweigan are three that I'm aware of although obviously they don't serve every airport.
