Hi VJ!

I've been lurking on the forums since applying for my Green Card (through marriage) back in 2012. Now that I'm waiting on my removal of conditions application to process, I thought that it was high time I joined and actually participated :) Thank you for all your insights - they were super, super helpful to us while we were completing our adjustment of status (from F-1 to Green Card) - I hope that I can pay it forward by sharing my own experiences and offering encouragement to those still in the process!

As I mentioned, I'm currently waiting to hear back on the removal of conditions petition (i-751) we submitted back in May. On that front, I had a somewhat curious experience, and wanted to see if anyone else did too: about 3 weeks after submitting the packet, I received a letter confirming submission, but not a biometrics appointment. I tried to track my case online using the receipt number on the letter, but the system wouldn't accept it. Finally, I called the USCIS and was told that they were just going to use my biometrics from when I filed my i-485 back in 2012! The fact that they still charged me the $85 biometrics fee aside, I was left without a usable receipt number, since cases don't become "active" in their system until the biometrics appointment letter is generated (with a new trackable case number). Finally, I called again at the end of July, and after a few transfers up the call center command chain, an officer found that I had been assigned a new receipt number. The new receipt number works with the online tracking system (yay!), and I learnt today my case is still in "initial review." While this doesn't make all the anxiety go away, it does help quite a bit.

Has anyone encountered a similar situation? Has it become normal for the USCIS not to request a second biometrics appointment for i-751?

On a side note, how accurate is the 6 month estimate for the VT center given on the UCCIS site?

Thanks for joining after having lurked!

Because of your specific queries, I'm moving your thread from "Introducing Our Members" to the ROC forum, for the best concentration of relevant advice.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thanks for the tip, DC85! Just checked the April filers thread... seems like my case is moving along at about the same (glacial) pace and in the same way as everybody else's.

Thanks, Nancy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I changed my address a couple of times since submitting the paper work (we moved to the other side of the country, had a sublet for a couple months before finding a year lease), I got confirmations in the mail for both changes, so hopefully they won't screw up and send things to the wrong address :P

Interesting as they required my wife's fingerprints at each stage; embassy, AOS, ROC, and Naturalization. Yet she only interviewed at embassy and Naturalization. Inconsistent procedure is a concern and seems to speak to the efficacy of USCIS.

We are glad to be finished with that system and recommend anyone who obtains the 10 year Green Card to go for citizenship once eligible.
