Nope. There'd still be live viruses unless you'd first used bleach.

Ebola doesn't survive long in the environment. A couple of hours at the most. That's why the mode of transmission is known as direct contact with contaminated body fluids.

It's not going to make it into the water supply. It's also not a high aerosol risk unless it was splashed directly into someones mouth or eyes. Even with direct contact, the virus is still of a type that requires direct entry to your body - either through a cut or scrape or putting the contaminated surface in your mouth or something.

Probably in their underground bunker waiting for the end.

Too right, Ebola is the devils plague, no one can escape, all shall be smitten, it's the first of the deadly plagues that signals the end of times. God is so fed up with the liberals, homosexuals and black people, he's going to kill us all and start again, he's thinking about making mice or cockroaches the chosen species next time.

How long does Ebola live outside the body?

Ebola is killed with hospital-grade disinfectants (such as household bleach). Ebola on dried on surfaces such as doorknobs and countertops can survive for several hours; however, virus in body fluids (such as blood) can survive up to several days at room temperature.

Body fluids, including blood, feces, and vomit are all considered potentially contaminated with bloodborne or other germs.

do not use high velocity pressure to clean up OPIM (other potentially infectious materials) when dealing with bloodborne pathogen clean-up. Why? Because you run the risk of aerosolizing the virus.

Nothing to fear here folks.

I don't think we want to start waiting for the CDC to show up every time someone vomits. I would suggest following standard universal precautions any time they are dealing with an unknown body fluid exposure. Ebola is not the only nasty thing out there.

The one thing I might have done differently, if I was the family, was not to have let them discharge him out of ER the first time. While it's apparent the hospital dropped the ball, I would have been handing it back to them, and I would be getting more and more specific even if I had to hunt down anyone who would listen and make the diagnosis myself.

World wide. Within the US, between 3,000 and 40,000 annually. Obviously, it helps if you are over 65 when you catch it.

http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm

How about those several million globally? The estimates that usually fly around are in the 250K-500K range. Never heard that it is millions per year.

My point wasn't to scaremonger, but to suggest that there are lots of potential sources of sickness out there, why pick on one that you are unlikely to ever come in contact with when there are freely available deadly virus amongst us all the time. ;)

That confirms the numbers I mentioned.

Worldwide, these annual epidemics are estimated to result in about 3 to 5 million cases of severe illness, and about 250 000 to 500 000 deaths.

So fine, not several million annually, half a million annually on average. My point is the same, most people come into contact with influenza once or twice a year and it does kill and it is an airborne virus so why not worry about that when it's all around instead of Ebola, that isn't?
